Hexed Combine Npc help

I'm having trouble creating a spawnlist for a hexed combine I created. I have the models and materials and all that junk set up, I'm just unsure how to create the lua file. Whenever I try something, I never see the spawn icon in the q menu. Anybody think they could help me?
