As I am new to the forums, I don't understand what "bink" means...can someone fill me in?

It is a video file format. It's what the HL2 preview movies were in.

If someone said "Watch the bink videos to see that sequence!" It's the same as if someone said "Watch the .mpg videos and see that sequence"

The bink videos were used to show the HL2 e3 2003 footage in high-resolution glory.

It was our first real glimpse at the game, so people tend to talk about it 'round these parts.

ahhh thank you. I watched the e3 video, but it was definitely not high-resolution; maybe that's why I missed it.

Fileplanet has a huge hl2 bink-video pack: shows some footage that made it, even if somewhat changed, into the final game.
