Does anyone know weather Valve will create a line of action figures for Half-life 2? I would love to see the combine police. Gordon, Alex and of course the zombies. Headcrabs would be accessaries. Oh and The Fish monster would Rock as a boxed set.

I bet they would make a lot of cash on that. Just think of all the kids and freaks who'd love to buy that crap.

Highly doubtful, but damn, Half-Life toys would rock. I used to love dreaming up toy ideas as a kid, now my mind's going crazy with ideas for HL2 toys. This is gonna be a pretty long post...

The standard human figures would have to be about 5.5" to 6", with no less than nine points of articulation (neck, shoulders, forearms, hips, knees). Even the shambling zombies need to have articulation points, and toys that can't move their elbows and knees are stupid. At least a moderate level of detail would be nice, doesn't need to be McFarlane-ish but no cheap sculpts, either. Gordon in plastic should have some damn dignity. :p

What the individual figures should be like:

Gordon Freeman: 6" tall, Freeman in his HEV Mk. 4 should have no less than a whopping 24 points of articulation. Head joint (to look left and right), neck joint (up and down), 2 ball-jointed shoulders, 2 twists above each elbow, 2 elbow joints, 2 wrist joints, 2 index finger joints (to hold the trigger of his guns). He needs a chest joint, a waist joint, 2 ball-jointed thighs, 2 thigh twists, 2 knee joints, 2 calf twists, and 2 ankle joints. Possibly 26 joints for mid-foot joints, to help him balance better.
Gordon has to be super-posable. Maybe 24-26 joints is extreme, but there are lots of cool poses you could put him in that way. Comes with trusty blood-encrusted crowbar accessory, MP7 submachine gun, and Spas-12 shotgun.

Zombie: 6" tall. Articulated in the neck, ball-jointed arms, elbows, waist, ball-jointed thighs, and knees. One foot should have an ankle twist, so it can be made to look like it's dragging the foot along. This guy has just enough articulation to swipe at you with its claws and have rudimentary movement.
Zombie headcrab is detachable, revealing whatever's underneath (Stump? Disfigured head? We'll know when the game's released). The headcrab's body and back legs should just be molded plastic, maybe some soft material for the top of the headcrab, but there's no need for articulation. The front legs should be bendy, however, so that they can hold them up threateningly, be able to stand, and "impale" their claws into two pegs on the zombie figure's chest.

Alyx Vance: The female lead should be slightly shorter than Gordon, from the look of the screenshots; about 5.5". She'll probably need the same amount of articulation as Gordon, as she's an athletic, nimble-looking person.
Comes with wrench, probably has a sidearm or a submachine gun (remember that she tosses Gordon the MP7 in the 2003 lab video).

Barney Calhoun: Decked out in his Combine uniform gear from HL2, the 6" former Black Mesa security guard has standard articulation, like the zombie except without the twisting ankle.
Carries an MP5k, his trusty Glock from Black Mesa, a six-pack of beer (each bottle can be individually removed from the box), and his old BMRF helmet, as a souvenir he kept.

Combine Soldiers: The faceless Combine are 6" with standard articulation. The front of their masks can be removed to view what's underneath. They clip back on securely at the sides so you don't have a figure whose mask keeps falling off.
They're packaged with a stun prod, MP5k submachine gun, and each carries a flare gun in case things get hectic and they need to call in reinforcements.

Vortigaunts: Alien slaves have a slight stoop to them, so their height will be about 5.3", maybe even 5". The vortigaunts will have completely different articulation. They will have a head joint and a neck joint, and also a neck twist on their semi-long necks; ball shoulders, twists above their elbows, elbow joints, wrist twists, and wrist joints. Their third arm can do without articulation, otherwise it would have three points of articulation: at the chest, elbow, and wrist. It's better just to mold the arm in its usual position. The vortigaunt will have an upper chest twist and a torso twist, ball-jointed legs, knee joints, INVERTED knee joints right above the calves (yes, they have two bendable joints in their legs, like some animals do), and ankle joints.
The alien slave will have some of the coolest accessories: a removable slave collar and slave bracelets, and molded green electricity which clasps around their wrists.

And last but not least:

The G-Man: This guy would be the greatest figure ever, IMO. Possibly a little taller than 6", maybe 6.1" or 6.2", the G-Man will have standard articulation except for a head joint in addition to the standard neck joint, and in his arms. His arms need ball-jointed shoulders, above-the-elbow twists, double-jointed elbow joints, forearm twists, wrist twists, wrist up-and-down joints, and possibly all of his fingers should have joints. His arms are very expressive; he needs to be able to straighten his tie, brush off his suit, and grab his briefcase.
Which will, coincidently, be his only accessory. The black Samsonite briefcase with the orange Black Mesa logo imprinted on one side, gold combination lock and accents on the handle (can't just be some crappy-ass piece of all-black plastic), which opens to reveal his ID card, a device that looks like a calculator, two pencils, and a 9mm handgun. Quite possibly, he should come in a boxed set that includes the tram car from the end of HL1, complete with a translucent green and orange teleportation ball on a translucent stand. This should retail for $19.99.

The second wave of figures would be characters like Dr. Kleiner, the prowler, another type of zombie sculpt, deluxe-size Dog, Eli Vance, Judith Mossman, Father Gregori, and the ant lion.

Also there should be some "supply packs," carded packages of little things the figures could use, like extra headcrabs, health packs, perhaps suction-cup HEV and health dispensers you could stick to a flat surface, etc. There could be a weapons pack with things like the USP Match, RPG, that gun Gordon uses to set that Combine soldier on fire, the hive hand, pheromone spores, HE grenade, and snarks.
And a "Physics Pack" with the manipulator, some barrels, a rubbery matress maybe...:p Possibly bill it as an experimental weapons pack and toss in the tau cannon, gluon gun, and OpFor's displacer.

Some vehicles would be nice too. Buggy, real-floating watercraft, and deluxe Strider and Manatee (though, you shouldn't be able to fit in those last two). :)

I think maybe I should e-mail Valve...anyone think so?

well, i know i'de buy some :P. especially gordon, combine, vortigaunt and zombie.

I know I certainly would want some HL2 figures. Especially Gordon and the Vortigaunt.

One thing though...

Animals knees don't bend backwards. Not even birds knees. The bit that looks like a backward knee on many animals is actually the ankle.

However, for aliens, it may be different.

How about gibbers. small chunks of multicolored candy that looks like gibbed characters.

Ever seen that awful Charlie Sheen movie, The Arrival? ;)

P.S. Looks like I'm an icthyosaur now. Sweet!

Hey, I liked The Arrival!

Also, I remember reading an article in a science mag where they went through and redesigned the human body to be tougher and longer lasting. Apparently Mother Nature got it wrong, and knees would work better if they bent backwards :E.

That description was awesome but where the hell did you pick up a fetish for describing toys?

Gibs sweets would be awesome, chewing skulls and hearts, delicious.

If they ever create these action figures they should give the job to McFarlane toys or maybe even michael lau. Also Kubrick toys would make some sweet minis of hl2 :P

yeah, mcfarlane's sweet :D. the tortured souls series = pwnage.

I can't see them making an action figure for the G-Man. Alyx can come with Dog as an accessarie. Th zombie can come with a removable headcrab, once removed you'll see the head of the host. with his eyes rolled back and his hair partly slimed. THe alien slave seemed shorter in the first game, but know they seen to stand more upright. And of course Combine soldiers but I'm not buying the removable mask. cause they would probably skrew it up anyways *thinks of batman with snap on hardware* Forget the vehicles. :imu:

I'd definetly buy a model of the buggy. If it was a decent size. And not too pricey.

Like I said, I used to do this as a kid. I've had practice, hehe. I'm still a kid at heart even though I'm almost 21. I used to do this for video games too...had I any talent in mapping/modeling/coding I probably would've released 2-3 mods already. :)

McFarlane does make sweet toys but lately they've been more like small models. Very detailed but they don't move around much...I remember when their motto was something like making cool looking toys that're actually fun to play with. Some of their figures can't even move their legs anymore. Not fun at all.

BTW I stumbled onto this last night, if anyone's interested:

Counter-Strike figurines

These are tiny little Counter-Strike toys from Japan. They're somewhat like Kubricks except they can't move.

Natan, Dog couldn't be an accessory. Have you seen him? He's huge. He'd have to be a deluxe figure. I'm thinking if the standard figures were something like $6.99, Dog would be $10.99. He'd be considerably bigger, like 8". And you can't ditch the vehicles! Especially the watercraft. I had this whole scenario out in my head where that would be cool to play with (filling up the kitchen sink then having Gordon hop into the craft to escape the Strider figure sitting on the kitchen counter, hehe). Plus, the buggy's cool.

Hm, wasn't aware that the backwards joint on some animals was an ankle; thanks for the clarification. What I was thinking of when I saw the Vortigaunts was a gazelle; their legs bend similarly.

Gazelle

Notice how the rear legs are? Like that. They have a knee, an ankle, and then a joint right above the foot so that it can bend. I assumed that would be their ankle, but I guess that's called something else. Coincidently that's pretty much how a vortigaunt stands, too, legs bent in just that manner.

I left something out for "Wave 2" of the toys also: deluxe boxed Icythosaur. Possibly with caged scientist. :E

That joint above the hoof is actually the toe joint, I believe. Hooves are actually modifed toenails. I think the joint in question may be called the "pastern". Never really been sure about the name.

Gah, I'm being too nerdy. Personally, I wouldn't mind having the Alien Grunt from HL as an action figure, complete with a little projectile-launching Hive Hand :E.

I'd be all over those action figures if they ever hit the shelves...

The vehicles would need a backgrop if they did them, but I wouldn't expext too many of them. The boxed set of the Ichy would probably be better if the scientist were hanging off of something, so that the fish/mammal has a chance to snatch'em. Theres no way he could get him in that cage.

What in the name of whistling jamjars is a "backgrop"?

Oh, wait... "Backdrop"?

I meant backdrop. a picture to fill the background that sets the mood.

Yup. Thought so.

How about a skyline of City17? One with the Combine Citadel dominating the other structures...
