HL2 cheats?

As HL2 is so closely bound up with Steam, how can I get HL2 cheats to work in the desktop shortcut?

Method 2: Also reported you can start the game with the -console command line parameter. Make a shortcut to the game, right click on it and edit the properties to look similar to this:

C:\Program Files\Half-Life 2\hl2.exe" -console

Or you can just do it this way.

That only works on qwerty keyboards

And you guys didn't answer his question

I just checked, and you can't.

But what you can do, is put the commands you want to run in the 'config.cfg' file (found in the 'cfg' folder), and it will automatically run all those commands on startup (Haven't checked if it will truly work, though, but it should )

Has anyone been able to get a gamer's edge (cheat) in this Steam-powered game that WORKED for you?

Those are probably the beta cheats. They don't work for retail.
And are you sure "sv_cheats" is set to 1? (By typing in console sv_cheats 1 )

Thanks for the reminder, Beerdude26. I got that typed in the console and now I have some weapons for when I get into danger.

Now I've come across a problem in the game. How do I get into that environmental suit that Aliyx, Barney and the doctor have in their place. At one time I could walk into it easily. Now I can't get into it at all. I've typed in the console, the 'give item_suit' command but that doesn't work and the other characters are waiting for me. Any pointers on what to do next would be appreciated.

You can't get to it?!

In the lab sequence you're talking about, after they talk a bit, Barney should come in and open a door up and you'll see the suit in a clear case. You can open the case with 'E' if I remember that part of the game correctly...

Oh, when you use impulse 101, it also gives you the environmental suit, so you the lab sequence won't work. Sorry, I forgot that
