How do you get the HL2 console? do you have to alter the .exe file like you did with Hl1?

Err... you didn't have to do that with HL1.
2 ways to get it...
Open Steam > Play Games > Right click on Half-Life 2 > Properties > Launch Options > type in "-console" (without the quotes)
You can also get it by opening Half-Life 2 > Options > Keyboard > Advanced... > Enable developer console
