HL2 Install help needed

Hey I have a collectors edition of Hl2 and when i go too put the disc in neither of my cd drives detect it, I have tried installing from steam but when i enter my registration key it says it must be installed form the disc, I have also tried a friends collectors edition disc but it still doesnt work, please help

Are you sure it is a CD? Not a DVD?

And do others CDs (also try DVDs) work? Because if they do, you might have a faulty copy. Try taking it back to the store if it is.

If you click on 'My Computer', you still can't see the disc? If not, you may be very unlucky. Strange it doesn't detect your friend's disc either. Do you have a very old drive? (Could be too slow, perhaps.)
