First off, let me say that I'm not a hardcore gamer but I've played a whole hell of a lot of games in the last 10 years. There's only a few that I really really like. I've hardly ever posted on forums either. That being said, I am so impressed with this game that I sought out a site where I could tell everyone just how good I felt about it.

Up until now I've never played a FPS that caught my fancy in the least. To me it is ultimately the atmosphere of a game that keeps my attention. Fallout 1 and 2 and Thief 1 and 2 are probably the most memorable games I have played up until now, and they are so memorable largely because I could immerse myself in their worlds completely. These games are all very different of course, but all of them have a solidly immersive atmosphere that takes hold and keeps me riveted.

Like I said, I've played a lot of games, but these few will forever stick out in my mind. I think of them the way I think of the very best novels I've read, the best movies I've seen. It is not the graphics and technicalities of a game that make it or break it for folks like myself (though these things are still very important.) It is instead the experience of the game itself.

Anyway, I had a great deal of fun playing Half Life 2 and rank it amongst the best games ever made. I now have my top 3 most beloved game series of all time instead of just 2. Now I need to go see how Episode 1 pans out.

Damn right. Half-Life 2 kicks in your face with AWESOME.

EDIT: You'll be amazed how well thought out some details actually are. An example: Ever wondered why the piers were so low?

Speaking of which, don't forget the traces of the old tide line, now with water nowhere in sight.
That's what you call detail.

Never noticed that.

Good job for not posting in the newbies forums.

I agree. I don't really like shooters, but i love the half life 2 storyline.
