HL2 sound editing

Hi all you brainiacs,

I'm a total dolt, never sttempted this before, but I would like to change some of the weapon sounds etc, in HL2. How would I go about this? Anybody steer me in the right direction?

I did manage to get the cross hair changed to be more visible using a font editor if anyone is interested in that!

So you want to modify the existing sounds?

I use Sound Forge 8 for audio editing, but you could try Audacity (free)
You probably know about GCFscape. You can use that to extract the sound folder from one of the .gcf files
Then just load up some sounds into audacity and go from there

(Source sounds.gcf will have most of the audio for HL2)

Do you mean modifying the sounds themselves, or creating new sounds from scratch, or simply swapping a different sound you found in another game/mod with the existing ones?
