HL2 Steam skin

I think VALVe should release a Steam skin with Half-Life 2.. A Half-Life 2 Steam skin.

I THINK VALV3 SHUD RAL3AES A STEM SKIN WIT HALF-LIEF 2.1!1!!11!!!11 OMG A HALF-LIEF 2 ST3M SKIN

I've been expecting a few official skins by VALVe for a while (Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, HL2, etc) But they never came :(

In all fairness, they have more important things on their plates than to worry about flashy Steam skins :p I would like to see some user made ones though, anyone got any urls to steam skin sites?

Yeah i was expecting some custom skins as well :( I guess we'll have to wait until HL2 is released :)

Cant really blame Valve. When you stop and think about how big of a company they are and all they are doing, its crazy. They are dealing with the current HL titles (patches n such), Source conversions (HL, OP4, Blue Shift, DoD, CS, TFC), Steam Updates, Half-life 2, and lastly Team Fortress 2. Man they have a lot on their hands.
 
Have you read the Steam-powered.com forums?

Every time VALVe release something that isn't THAT important they get ripped apart by the whole (or most of it) of the Counter-Strike community for not fixing the more "Important" things to do with Steam - eh works fine for me.

I'm sure if they released some skins everyone at Steampowered.com would attack them for not fixing some "OMGWTFLOL THE AW/M IS BROKEN!!1" bug

What a sad world we live in :(

I think if the CS community just suddenly died, the average IQ of the whole world would probaly raise about twenty-five points..

Well they did a HL2 WMP skin. IT was kinda cool.

Aye, when they released that I expected a wave of cool Steam Skins, Its a shame, I don't use WMP very much, excellent skin though!

Some CS-ers are alright, but the lamers, 12 year olds, and hackers really ruin that game. If it werent for them, I would probably play it. Hopefully CS source will be too much for all the 12 year olds Pentium2 HP computers. Then the game will be that much better. (this isnt to attack all 12 year olds who Play games, some of em are more mature than others. Heck I was 12 when HL was released and I bought it.)
 
I know loads of nice Counter-Strike players. Most of the community that sit around flaming on the SP.com forums really put a bad face on the otherwise nice community :|

Well i'm 14, just turned 14 few days ago, and I think those little queers give the guys that aren't so bad mannered a bad name.. Good, mature, team players usually quit because of it.. DoD has a much better community.

And once CS:Source is realeased, these kids will get their mommys to buy them new PC's :(
 
During Beta 1 of Steam the Steampowered forums were fun and a nice place to be...

When Steam went out of beta (actually when it went into Beta 2) the forums went down hill, rather like this..

Thats possibly the best simulation I've ever seen in my life! I'd love to see how you would represent the stock market.
 
This is probably a bit off topic but I'd like for Valve to let Windows do the user interface job (flame away) but there's this really good program called Style XP that modifies Windows's visual style and that could also modify Steam's user interface.

EDIT: And people who'd want to make a Steam skin could add the "special background" and other effects and let XP do the UI.

hey, maybe they have something like this planned for the Collectors Edition? i know...its not a big deal.. but might be a pleasant surprise amoung the items u get in a Collectors Edition.
 
Yeah, but they'd be passed around so quickly on the net that it'd be a completely pointless addition :(

And since Evil^Milky boy is "advertising" StyleXP, in all fariness I should mention WindowsBlinds as an alternative :) Tis beautiful ....
 
I downloaded a HL2 skin but it didn't work. :angry:
 
How did it not work? It was corrupt? There was no option to add it? Did you put it in the right directory? We might be able to help, since there are *very* few ways in which a Steam skin can fail to work! It's not as if there's much stuff to make up a steam skin :)

Yeah, i'm using it now, good job! Always wondered who made this one.
 
Okay, I need some help. I downloaded that HL2 skin, and after unzipping it, I dropped the folder into the "Skins" folder of Steam. I went into Steam, selected the new skin in the skin menu, and it told me (like usual) that the new skin would not come into effect until I restarted Steam. I closed out of Steam, but now when I try to open it, I get this error message:

"Steam.exe (main exception): Failed to create key TopKey\SteamServerAddressCache
Details: CMultifieldBlob(pSerialized): Partial field header at end of record"

Can I fix this, or am I screwed and have to reinstall Steam :o ?
