It really could go either way, both scenario's (a collapse of the citadel and thus freeing City 17 or complete destruction of City 17 (maybe even Earth?)) could producte interesting stories for HL3.

I think HL3 is going to be vague about this, or only telling it later in the story.

Look closely and you can see just the very top of the citadel break off and start falling towards alyx and gordon.

I've thought of a pretty cool beginning for a story about Alyx that continues after the citidel incident. Too bad I don't have any hammer skills to do anything about it.
I'd like Alyx to survive the blast, but most likely, she's toast.

Anyway, I think most of City 17 is probably toast. Burnt toast. Even Breen says something about how Gordon is going bring the whole Citadel down.

You gotta remember EVERYTHING is connected through th Citadel in City 17. Not much would be able to live even if some survived... there would be no power, which is a must in the future, or possibly food(since it is basically impossible to find fresh food anywhere near).

Also a portal that was interupted into another galaxy or time holds SO MUCH energy is would be equal to much more than a Nuclear Bomb. City 17 would be destroyed no question.

And as for Alyx, well she just unfolded the enourmous black hawk helicopter hidden within her necklace, springloaded for easy access, and flew out of there while launching missile after missile at the combines down below, picking up Barney, Kleiner, Dog and Lamarr in a fly-by, and then escaping in enourmous fire storm!

i dont think they'd introduce alyx just to kill her off...i could be wrong tho. since we don't actually KNOW im not going to speculate either way but people are entitled to their beliefs.

We cant play as Alyx. If it whould be any other girl/woman than ok, there's no problem. But as playing Alyx, NO! I dont hate Alyx, but there are certain things which whouldnt make it as Half Life. Alyx and Barney will be NPC:s at the next game. Cause in all half's of lifes your character wont speak a word. I think that is the main problem.These are just my thoughts. We will see it then at expansion and/or Half Life 3.
