the vortogons refer the gorden not as Dr. freeman but "THe freeman"
just somthing i picked up during my game play

imo the myth of the free man was made up by the gman, a myth about a man who isn't free at all.

the resistance people sometimes call him the Last Free Man or the Free Man, so do the Vortigaunts.

That's because he is almost "holy" to the resistance, and especially the vortigaunts who seem very shamanic.

You'd be holy to anything after you have have someone single-handedly bring your race to near extinction.

I believe the word for this is "ironic".
No it's not it's...

oh wait.
"The use of words expressing something other than their literal intention."
It is ironic, my mistake...

the reason vortigaunts refer to him as the free man is because on the lvl with the air boat... at 1 of the monitors you see breen making an announcement.....

saying how people hav given him a "messianic reputation" as the "one free man"

It's more likely the other way around, the vortigaunts call him the freeman, the free man, and so Breen calls him the free man.

The Vortigaunts call Eli "The Eli Vance" so I don't think it's anything special although they do say call Gordon in one of the quotes the All-in-one or something.

Guys, the Vortigaunts call everyone "The". "The Eli Vance" etc.

that´s perhaps because he´s free from the chain of time, and that may also explain why he hasn´t age one year since BLack Mesa, that´s because he was sent forward in time by the G-man.

You are all wrong, and i am right, they see gordon as holy, that's why they say : The one free man (and not the freeman like they say the eli vance.)

I always figured that they called him 'The One Free Man' because you were the only one who wasn't under control of the Combine. Everyone else either gets randomly beaten and is forced to wear certain clothing etc. (the civilians) or else has to hide away (the scientists/resistance).
