How disable chat?

I remember there was some command in HL1 so chat messages skip really fast, but i could not find it in HL2, i need it in order to disable chat.

hud_saytextime I think was the hl1 command.

i found it its hud_saytext_time, to bad you cant mute some players voices like you could in 1.6

You can mute individual voices. Hit <esc> and go to the player list. Highlight the player you wish to silence, click the button.
