how many ACTUALLY went to valve?

how many of the websites/magazines that claimed to have had a 'hands on playtest' of hl2 before e32k4 actually did? in total, internationally, i would say about 15-20 magazines and websites claimed this. they all went to seattle and they all played the same levels, that we have all now seen.

i believe they were all just shown the e3 videos and were told they could claim they had a playtest in order to get alot of new publicity and hype up again. true some were more imaginative than others, putting in their own information here and there, but theres nothing in any of the pre e3 reports that we have now not been shown.

anyway, to get back to the topic starter, there have been a minimal of 2 demo's that we never got to see.

One was about gordon being chased by 3 antlions, and suddenly they dig themselves in, obviously afraid of something and then this huge antlion guard pops out of the ground and chases you, you find shelter between some boulders and rocks so that the antlion cant reach you, the player obviously couldnt hang out there all night so he took he ran (chased by the antlion). And then you see a APC driving trough the dunes and the antlion guard see's it as a bigger threath so he goes after them, nocks the APC to its side and eventually rolling it down the dune hill.

the other one was that you are chased by a MECH version of the combine soldier, you hide in a room and lock it, but then the mech soldier starts punching the door causing it to bed and eventually the mech soldier breaks trough and you are on the run again.

conclusion. Some the reviewers DID go to seatle and see some demo's (2003) and in 2004 they went back and played some levels.

So you admit up front that the main point of your post is trolling. How unique.

Your silliness aside, I fully agree with you that some of the magazines that claimed to have visited Valve probably didn't. There are a couple eastern European rags in particular which I have in mind. But the supplemental information that is incidental to the gameplay content of the articles in some magazines is an indication that they probably went. For example, PC Gamer said that Valve has been contacted by the U.S. Military and also by a school for autistic children regarding the licensing of Source engine technology. The only way editor Dan Morris could've known that was to have heard it from Gabe.

Of course, PC Gamer could be lying; they could've just gotten an e-mail full of tasty tidbits from Valve. Other popular magazines with the means and motive to make the trip to Seattle could be lying too. But then again, they're probably not. It all comes down to your perspective.

And I'll remind you that you've already admitted your perspective is that of a troll.
