I did some benchmark testing with 3 programs. Here are the results.

With PerformanceTest I got a final score of 138.1.

With Final Reality I got a 3.96 on 3D tests and 3.61 on Bus Transfer Rate.

With Gun Metal Benchmark I got an average fps of 5.31. (ouch)

512 MB Ram
1.3 GHz AMD Duron
Radeon 9600 pro

Also im looking into a new cpu for my k7s5a motherboard but im clueless on what to get. Was looking at an AMD Athlon 2800+. Thanks.

your processor is bottlenecking your system, but your GPU is great. i recommend getting a new mobo and CPU. if you're rich get a gig of RAM too.

yeah update your cpu to around 2ghz-3ghz
I have 512, 9600xt xtreme and 2.4 athlon and it runs fine, and will run better with more ram

i have a 9600xt, 2.19ghz, 512ram and my 9600xt runs like shit. no one has been able to help me

I have a similar system. Do you have recent drivers? DirectX installed properly? Are you running on the recommended settings?

I've got a 9600XT 256mb on a p4 3.0ghz with 512mb of RAM and I get decent performance on all High settings, long loading times though, I think I need more RAM. :(

try this, i get a load of stutter and low fps, especially around the strider section, and loads on the antlion map someone made on here.

i have an intel 3.2 ht, 512 ram, radeon 9600. i just did a performance test and got 343.2

Performance Test: 479.6
3D: 7.85
AGP Bus: 9.40
Gunmetal: Average FPS is 35FPS
3DMark 01: 17,439
3DMark 03: 8,387

:) just thought i'd brag a lil

Thanks for the help and results on your tests. I'm looking at the AMD Athlon 2700+. While i'm getting a new cpu I figured it would make sense to get a new mobo. Currently using an AMD K7S5A V1.X. Any ideas for that?

Have you tried Defragmenting your hard drive? I did that on my HDD that has HL2 and I noticed a slight but noticable increase in my load times. Hope that helps.

My system's bottleneck is it's inherent sense of failure.

I personally like this alot better than most benchmarks. It also has a big database of other systems' scores to compare yours to. Of course, there is always the Source Video Stress Test you can acces through Counter-Strike:Source to see how your system likes the HL2 engine.

And to answer the topic starter's question: everything is OK except your CPU, Durons are pretty bad. 1GB of RAM would be better, but 512 MB is still decent. The 9600 Pro is also a pretty good card, not the fastest by any stretch but perfectly fine for HL2 if your other hardware is good.
