Ideas??

I'm having a bad day. Me and mod team want to make a mod in the half-life universe, but we're stuck on ideas that would make it unique. Any ideas at all?

I'm not saying we don't have ideas. We've looked at changing AI to be more concerned with self-preservation, and adding in more tactical commands, and giving the enemy better tactics. Namely, the use of suppression fire, to allow flanking.
 
What about something where no matter what you do, you always end up messing up (not necessarily for fault of your own). And also throw in some accidental forward time travel and fps combat in space. Actually I was going to make something along those lines but don't have the time, or patience, or skill. Well, it's actually a bunch more complicated then that, but I never finished writing out my story draft. I would like to see a game were if you screw up the mission, you don't get a "Mission Failed", it just gets more and more impossible until you die. And missions that teach responsibility. Like if you are space infintry, you follow the mission plans, very little of this rambo stuff I always see FPS players doing (well, some rambo later on). Maybe even some boring missions where you go to your position for a fire drill just for emersion. And you need an origional score composed by Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman and John Williams played by the Boston Pops. Well, I was going to call it "Adaptive 279th: Alicui Fortitudo" (sorry, my latin probably sucks, roughly 'for anything, courage')". Well, I'm done here, time to go play Gary's Mod.

Oh yeah, and I know that by posting I relinquish most all rights to this stuff, but at least tell me if you borrow something so I can play when it gets released :)
 
And throw in a bunch of obscure literary references (mostly from my 12th grade curriculum). One of the "bad" guys was a minister who wears a black viel. A character known as the playwright who speaks obnoxiously like shakespeare (no insult to shakespeare intended). And one of the ships you fight on at some point that is named the Pequod.
 
i'm full of ideas, among other things.

Here me out

For one i like the idea of messing with the AI. If you can work in some sort of moral system for the sentient npcs instead of having them always fight to the death that'd be a plus.

Something i've always wanted to see is halflife 2 done with the weapons treated in a realistic manner. Where it doesn't take 2 full clips of mp7 fire to take down another character.

Stuff i'd like to see.

-Increase pistol reload time, up the damage, decrease mag.
-Up the damage of the mp7 by alot, remove the nade launcher, increase reload time
-Up the damage of the pulse rifle by alot, get rid of having to pick up orb rounds, instead have them drain a full clip of ammo.
-Get rid of the crossbow, replace it with something like that other concept in Raising the Bar. The one that looked like a homemade air pressure powered rebar launcher. Up the projectile speed a bit.
-decrease the cook time of the nades that way you don't always have to grav gun them to be useful, remove the red light
-Add a speed loader to the magnum, it looks weird speed reloading it without one. Give it a little more inaccuracy. Its a pistol, not a sniper rifle. Up the damage just a tad.
-Up the damage on the shotgun, get rid of the double blast. Instead replace secondary fire with a faster ROF like what the real life spas 12 has. Up the clip to 7 or 8 shots.
-Rocket launcher, 1 shot, tone down the laser guidance more in tune with how it was in hl1, up the damage for a nearly garranteed kill.
-Slams, if the mod is for online play, color the laser appropriately for each team.

-Disallow people from firing when jumping
-Add iron sights
-Intoduce an accuracy system. i.e. prone>crouched>standing>walking>running and single>burst>full auto. Everything much more accurate in iron site mode.
-Add a class system ala TFC if the mod is for online play.

If the mod you want is more of a single player campaign. How about something that follows the adventures of Gina or Collete from halflife decay. One of the 2 was the trainer hologram at the hazard course. Perhaps try and cover whats been going on with them. Or perhaps whatever became of adrian shephard.

If you want to go for a more online approach, how about some objective based gameplay or some coop against enemies with improved AI.

I've seen thousands upon thousands of mods with loads of ideas and no team, but this is the first time I've ever seen a team with no ideas.

Focus on what YOU'D want to play and make it, not what a potential audience would like to play. There's always people with the same interests as you who'd play it.
