India's Titanic Windfall

They say every cloud has a silver lining, the December 26 Tsunami has a titanium one.

approximatly 40 Million tons of Titanium ore washed up on 300 miles of coastline in India. It is worth untold millions of dollars for India. Titanium alloys are used in aerospace technology and, increasingly, in household goods and cars. Not only will this help India's economy, but it can also help keep up with the increasing demand for the titanium.

I think that at least some good is coming from such a major disaster, and this will surely help India's trade.

What kind of political effects will this have? Any other thoughts?

Well, I have seen poll numbers that show Indonesia is becoming more and more pro-Western after all the aid we sent them.

What does that have to do with India getting millions of tons of Titanium ore?

This is not about us (and guess what, Japan sent more than we did) and the aid we are sending them. It is about the political rammifications of their newfound resource.

Do you have a source on these "poll numbers"?

This is so amazingly off topic I think that I just crapped myself.

Kmack, do you even remember what you type?

You are talking about the positive affects of the Tsunami, I merely pointed out one.

So this is the political effects that india will feel because of the newfound titanium or.

I thought we were talking about the overall effect of the Tsunami on the region. Whatever though, if you want to focus on only titanium, then go ahead.

Where in my original post did i even hint at that?

I was talking about a specific event, the ore. Thank you for offereing to get on topic. (first time for everything.). Any relevant comments?

For once I am in agreement with seinfeldrules. He was on-topic in terms of positive effects of the tsunami and repercussions. It's nice that gestures of aid went down so well and that the international community may have been ever so slightly strengthened by that.

As for India... They flat-out refused aid and I respect them for that. They wanted to repair themselves - not that there is anything wrong with accepting aid, not at all - and they have been doing so. They are a fast-developing nation and they have every right to be proud and want to be independent. Bravo India. Bravo, indeed.

He was talking about indonesia, and in fact was talking abou tthe positive impact on their opinion of the west.

Thanks for your opinions though.

Just for clarification, I was pointing out the positive effects on Indonesians, not the West.

I know what he was talking about, and I thought it was somewhat relevant. So?

Just for clarification: How can that be a good thing for them only? If Indonesia's opinion of the West gets better surely that's positive for both sides involved.

Why is it good for indonesia that they are starting to become pro-west? Do you have a source to back this up?
