info about hl2 location

so there is a sign in trainstation...that says:Foto copy/Atelier

atelier=workshop in romanian
and in coast
there is a sign stateing
"insecticid and udner it Pericol de moarte"

insecticide -death danger

could the action be happening around here?

i know romanian cus i live here :(

Romania=east european country...ex comunist nation...near teh black sea(west shore of black sea)
 
There is alot of swedish text aswell, and all the roadsigns are swedish... I just think they borrowed some from some european countries :)
 
... It's not an actual city, it's a mix of a lot of european cities and styles.

Honestly I think they included a bit from all the countries, mainly for 1. It's supposed to be eastern european (City 17) and 2. It gives you something to recognize ingame and bind to reality, to create a bond and make the illusion even stronger.

Oh, and the swedish gaspumps r0xx0rz your b0xx0rz.
 
There is also some Compton Crip and Blood graffiti. Its nice to know some rappers were able to escape to City 17.

I recognized the various styles of graffiti, I don't give gang graf a second glance but if I did then I'd recognize it. It's the single-color, unreadable tags done with paint markers.
 
also europe in general is broken down into regions. Called City 1, city 2, city 3, etc. etc.
 
Yeah, I'd like to see some screenshots too. And aren't the trams very similar to the newer ones used in Gothenburg?
 
Not sure what to make of this.

I was reading a friend of mine's story about a visit to a town called "Woking" in England, and at the end, it had some little references to the sights andf things you see in the town. The thing that struck me as odd was the sculpture that was erected in town to imitate the aliens from HG Well's War of the Worlds famed story.

Look at the sculpture. Doesn't it look ljust like a strider?

theres a complete mix of different languages, so i suspect that they didnt model a city... foto shop/atelier is german as well and insecticid is bug poison....

That's OK, its 99.999% better than what most of us Americans speak on a daily basis (and look at how most of the post-kiddies on the steam forums speak if you want REALLY bad english). Steve has a good point tho. Most Americans are too lazy to ever try to learn another language, and we just assume that the rest of the world will learn to speak out language for us. I at least tried to learn Spanish in high school, but the only thing that stuck in my pea-brain were the cusswords that we wormed out of the teacher.

yeah, makes me feel bad too - I'm so bad with Spanish and German it's not even humorous. And yet I took German for 3 years and spanish for 1/2 (so far).
 
Dude...I took Spanish for 8 years. 8 FREAKIN' years...and guess what I got on the AP test? A 3 (out of 5), that's what I got. Just sad.

I noticed a lot of Russian text in the game and also a lot of Russian-esq type of things, that are quite strange in America ((those red carpets in dr.kleiners place and other places...)) Also the building construction resembles a lot of Russian tenements/appartments.
