Has anyone tried to install it on more than one PC? Like, say, your PC and your laptop? Or at home and at work?

Will it allow you install and play it on multiple machines - as long as only one is being played at a time I guess...

Basically, will I be able to install it on my home PC, and also be able to install and play it at work or on my laptop?

Excellent... so does that mean you have to "log on" online whenever you play it, so that Steam knows your copy is currently being played?

I was under the impression that as long as you had registered with steam and logged in to steam on any computer you could play the game.

I heard something about downloading it to if you have already entered your CD-Key.

So basically (assuming I bought the retail box) I can install HL2 wherever I like, whenever I like - at work, at home, my laptop, my Palm Pilot, my cat - from the same CD, there's no restriction?

Bottom line... if I can only install it ONCE, on one PC, then I'm NOT going to fork out AU$90 for it, coz Valve is being a Nazi with their Steam Regime, and they can shove it.

Otherwise... great, and Valve is still cool. :)

actually me brother wanted to play it so he just copied the entirity of steam over to his computer and he uses my account...thing is though, we can both log onto it at the same time

heh.. that sounds promising. :) ok, I might just get it after all.... Part of me is just waiting for the backlash from disgruntled players about all the things HL2/Steam doesn't let you do.... will hang out a bit longer to see, methinks.

So... like, do you have to log on every time you play? Still not clear about that.... can you still play without being connected to the internet?

"A steam account is required to play Hl2 and an internet connection is required to create and use your steam account.During installion you will be prompted to create your steam account and validate your CD key, once this is complete you can play HL2.An "offline mode" will also be available if the "remember my password" box is check on the steam log in screen"

"Offline Mode will not be available and an internet connection will be required if:
1.you do not select the remember my password option on the login screen.
2.You choose to login as a differnt user.
3.You check "dont save account information on this computer" on the steam account settings screen."
