As most of you probably know, the liberation of an Italian journalist, working for a communist(:O) newspaper, from Iraqi terrorists, lead to the death of an Italian agent. He was killed by American soldiers. Now the relation between Italy and the US is getting worse, and the Italian government now demands an explanation from the US embassy. The US' best excuse so far was that the car looked like it belonged to terrorists, and therefore it must be shot at.
Well the excuse is that it charged the checkpoint which is something suicide bomb cars usually do. If that really did happen then I have to say the US troops were correct in opening fire and the Italian government should keep its mouth shut. However we still don't know the whole story yet since it seems very strange for the driver to have been speeding through considering they had already been through several other checkpoints that day.

Also a thread is already on this :burp: :

Come on....let's not spin the spin too much. Thats not the best excuse. The best excuse is it was speeding towards a checkpoint, would not stop, when warning shots were fired and with troops waving at them like crazy men. So they took em down. And so would I have done the same thing.

And so would you have, if you were in the same situation.

The U.S. military said the car in which Sgrena was riding after her release was speeding as it approached a coalition checkpoint in western Baghdad on its way to the airport. American authorities said soldiers shot into the engine block only after trying to warn the driver to stop by "hand and arm signals, flashing white lights and firing warning shots."

You can read the article here : http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=554370&page=2

So lets manage the spin a bit better huh? There was a lot more apparently going on than the USA 'thought they looked like terrorists'.
