It's time we saw Gordon Freeman

Same here, lets say Valve started making Gordon model but then leave it be for some reason and it could be used by mods, GMod, and multiplayer mods. Yay for better Half-Life based comics! D:

You people are all retarded. I am in complete agreement with the first post.

All we need to see is ONE glimpse, maybe one mirror in the whole game (maybe at the end of ep 3 or something) that only lasts a second so you can't really see the expression (maybe passing by a mirror on an elevator you can't control). That's it, nothing more.

And the retard who said having Gordon speak is the same as having him visible for once, is just that, a retard.

And despite my attempts at finding an actual argument buried in this post, I have come up with nothing.

So you want to sit there with your thumb up your ass, spouting off jerkish rhetoric, or actually do something?

I'm not sure if I'll be spit on for this, but, I agree I think it would be kind of interesting to see a reflection or some sort of a glimpse of Gordon (even if it's quick) something tells me they still might, if anybody has the Raising the Bar book from Valve they do have a head model for Gordon, but I'm not to say they didn't just use it for boxart and whatnot. But I wouldn't be pissed if I saw Gordon in a reflection. (I wouldn't be pissed if I didn't either)

Here's what I think: Valve should use a Gordon model as a sort of reward at the very end of Episode 3. Let's say that Gordon dies at the end of Ep3. The camera could sort of come out of his "body" and rise into the sky, showing him lying in the rubble of whatever, before the GMan shows up and delivers his usual monologue. However, they most certainly should not show a Gordon model EXCEPT in that very final sequence. You are Gordon, until Gordon is dead.

(Yeah, I registered just to throw my opinion in here.)

I've gotta say that that would be pretty damn nifty.

Ok... Valve needs to get over their fear of reflective surfaces in the HL universe. We have yet to see a bathroom with a mirror.

They need to conjure up an official Gordon Freeman model and start adding in more reflective surfaces. Imagine being inside a building which is well-lit, and you move over to the window to look out into the night sky... and are surprised that they added a translucent reflection to the window, seeing yourself and the room behind you. It would add realism to the game.

But then they'd have to decide if Gordon is wearing the helmet on his HEV suit or not :) If he is, those conversations you have with Alyx seem pretty awkward all of a sudden, when you're the only douchebag wearing a fricking space suit, like he's the guy who mistakenly thought the party was a costume party. If he's not, then things like 'suit zoom' become a little hard to explain.

Omg... did you play HL....? It'd be like having Gordon TALK!
I mean... you want to see Valve mobbed by fans?

It's not about realism...
It's about Gordon/Half-Life/[insert cheesy thing for "it" to be about]

helmet or not they arn't the same suit

everyone forgot to see that between the 2 games both HL1 and HL2 use different suits, they look different and the suit in HL2 was only experimental during HL1... the Mark 4 vs the Mark 5 have different features... but i agree where are the mirrors.

About the suit zoom, who says those glasses aren't wired up to the HEV suit and have a zoom makes as much sense as anything else

Er, Kleiner upgraded your old suit.

No! Gordon cannot die!! :O

Besides, it would spoil there chance for any sequels.

Mirrors are just a no.

Or he's using binoculars. He's just so fast at sticking them to his face you don't see it.

I liked how when you got into the HEV suit it showed your hands. Ive always thought maybe something simple like that would be nice. Being able to look down and see your torso..... eh just a thought.

It would be like Gordon was going to Valhalla, and looks down to see his own body while flying up!!! And nobody would pay any attention to gman's monologue anyway, they'd be too interested in gawking at Gordon's body and nobody cares what gman has to say anyway...

Hurray for Model Manipulator and camera and Ak-47

... I havent read the whole convo, so forgive me if I am repeating something, but at the start of HL2 in the chapter "Red Letter Day" the picture that Kleiner turns to open the eye scanner has what looks to be Gordon among the crowd of Scientists.

Screenie attached. He's second from right. At least thats what it looks like. I think the scribbled out face was Dr Breen. Kleiner is also in there, the bald one. So I think it might be an actual photo

Most people have noticed that. The fact isn't that Gordon doesn't exist. It's the fact that no-one sees him exist in real-time. Ie yourself. And it's not going to happen

Read through the first 4 pages of this thread but then could not be bothered to continue.

Okay, lets begin with Portal, shall we?
We saw "ourselves" in it, through the portal "doorways" and i didnt really find that oh-so-good because it didnt look realistic when compared to the rest of the game.
The developers did do a great job, dont get me wrong, but did anyone seriously say;
"Wow, that model is really realistic and good - I am impressed."

I would have liked to see some reflections around the Half Life world - but not yet.
Does anyone remember playing Doom 3 and passing the bathroom mirror? When you see yourself- you instantly thought - "Uh! That was a bit of a shock, thought it was a monster then... Hmmm. Not very real."
When you jumped, the mirror image jumped - but didnt do much else. Stood as still as a rock and the facial expression didnt change.
Boring.

Please remember, that Gordon has been running about like mad throughout the entire Half Life Series - without having a simple toilet-break or sleepy-time (well, apart from where the Gman took him away to his hidey-hole).
As the game progresses, it would be soooooo soooooo stupid to see Gordon with the same facial expression - in HL2, he runs about through the night - (ravenholm) then continues to run during the day. Compare Barney from HL2 to Episode 1, the difference is astounding. You'd expect to see Gordon more tired. You'd expect to see his hair and face get grubby and messed up - the bags under his eyes heaving.
Some of you will be going; "Stop getting into the deep, detailed stuff."
But thats it.

You will mind about this if it is not done.
The game will lose its sense of realism as soon as you look in the mirror and see Gordon just stay still in the reflexion.

You will want to see him act as real, if not more so, compared to the Citizens.

This would have been far too detailed to do in HL1, even HL2. HL3 (if it does get planned to be done) would be the only real chance of slowly developing Gordon's facial expressions throughout the entire game.
Who wouldnt want to see Gordon dive underwater then stand in the mirror, his hair soaked and straight.

I expect Valve will eventually do a Mirror system.

But only when they know it will be truly effective.

Hey the doom3 mirrors weren't that bad :P

There are actually two things to think about videogame mirrors. The effect and the animations.
Bland player animations will render the whole thing dull, even if the effect is perfect.

(Also the reflected HUD is a side-effect from a shitty .tga to .jpg file, ignore it)

Holy Shit, Leak From Valve, Gordon Is A Vampire So Mirrors Dont Work D:

I'd be happy to play Half-Life and not see Gordon's face in-game.

PS: I was unaware the HEV Suit came with a helmet.

Yeah well, if not, you would die if you got shot in the head, not hear the "You just got shot in the head, but the suit prevented the damage." thing.

I love people who argue that when HL came out, mirrors were a technical impossibility...

...

Even though Duke Nukem 3D had em

The HEV suit has a retractable helmet. :P
mirrorz lulz

Well when you get lit up with automatic rifle fire you see enough blood sprayed on the wall to fill two Gordon's. If anything the helmet is retractable.

Woah, 70x70 avatars! Not going to change mine though..

EDIT: Wrong thread :|

I frankly don't care either way if I see Gordon in-game or not. However, considering all the shit he's gone through without showering or even changing clothes, he probably looks like hell.

On a different note, does it bother anyone else that Gordon Freeman has friends when he never speaks? It bother's me a little. I mean, I understand why they did it that way, but mute protagonists always bother me, unless, of course, there's no one for the protagonist to talk to. :bounce:

Wait.

When was the picture of Gordon Freeman ever linked to the name Gordon Freeman.
I haven't actually seen a Valve produced evidence that says this person IS indeed Gordon Freeman.
