I've gone and buggered my physics settings...

I was messing around with the physcannon_maxmass and physcannon_maxforce settings and managed to make the game crash by picking up combine cars and the buggy. Seemed to work fine until i used the repulse fire on a car and the game froze trying to do some impossible physics calculations.

What am i doing wrong? Why is it having problems working out the physics?

Because your not supposed to do it? Valve doesn't have to program things out of the games scope, and picking up cars is out of the games scope ((I tried it myself, lags like a bitch))
 
What file did you change to make the settings for the physics settings or did you do it from the console?
 
Additionally if it was through the console, for the guys more knowledgable - isn't that stored in one of the .cfg files? Someone could just post and attach their file and that should fix to default settings for ya. Just need to fix any changes you'd made to the key assignments which can be done through the options menu.
 
Yeah, crashes from using the gravity gun on large vehicles are common. For me, the buggy went crazy and started bouncing around while stuck high on a building.

I don't think we can call it a bug when we're making the game do things it wasn't designed for. :E
 
yea, when i first picked up a combine vechile my fps went to like 5, when i tried again, it froze. It's a simple fix. Just don't do it.

Or use JB's mod to do it. I can pick up and play around with the buggy and airboat with that gun flawlessly. I haven't tried it on the APC yet though.
 
I can't get JBmod to work on my system, keeps telling me that a procedual is out of scope. Any ideas?

I used the physcannon_[x] range of commands on the console Chris_D.

I was messing around with the physics settings because i've got an idea for a simple mod that gives Gordon psycic powers. Stuff like being able to throw objects and people with more force and control, setting people on fire, vaporising them, crush them and mind control.

I've got the fire bit worked out so far... And i'd replace the gravity gun sounds and models with a hand and some spangle SFX&sound.

Anyone know a console command/cfg setting that lets you use the gravity gun on live targets?
 
The JB mod does in fact work with a Combine APC. You can pick them up with no problem.
