just want to play the game . . . !!!

I just built a new box and reinstalled.
Activated the steam account, etc..
But everytime I launch the game I get in a loop with the steam crap. I didn't have any problems before - but did not have a DSL hookup either.

I want to play OFFLINE. How do I get this other stuff off my back?

eh you might want to explain your problem a little more lucidly
a good place to start is to delete your client blob file and then start steam
other than that validate your game files
