Being an avid, almost sycophantic fan of DOD ever since it came out, not being able to play it has been the bane of me. Long story short, I have major lag (constant 800 ping) when i play DOD:S.

I have a 3mbit broadband connection, no spyware, no firewall and play other demanding games like Battlefield 2 online with no lag. I have no idea what to do or what is going on. I've been on the steam forum support and they havent been able to fix it yet. So you guys are my last hope... any suggestions would be nice.

Rate 8000 and try rate 10,000, it works great for me. I don't know how it works, I just found that was my lag problem, and since ive put my rates down I have about a good ping of 25 on my fav servers. It used to be like 220, my connection is cable, probably a bit worse than your's. But nothing to complain about, it does its job great.

yah im using Adelphia and most of the time im getting some real bad lag. its starting to make me mad. i hope this gets fixed in time.

i dont noe if its my connection or what but i have to set the rate down to modem speeds or else my in gets stuck at 44 for some reason. its supposed to be at 60 or higher for smooth gameplay. my out is at 60 so its good but i also get sever choke whenever i move or see someone and my ping gets shot down.. . right now i'm not worried about ping, i'll just have to live with the lag compensation thats built in game but i just cant even move at all without warping 20 feet backwards.
