then i run out of time he gets away how do you get to top and stop him

You mean Breen, right? The pillars moving up & down are sort of a xenian puzzle that you have to use in the correct sequence to get up... that and the energy balls need removing from all the pillars using the gravity gun to be able to safley make your way past them, then when you're at the top use the never-ending pillar of dark energy balls to throw at the pod Breen is in.

Dont throw the energy balls ar breens pod, throw them at the rotating plates around the portal to stop him from teleporting..just ignore the dropships and breens pod
