They weren't going for rarity. They were going for a high performance Mustang designed for a European market. It just wasn't attractive to an American market since the V8 had the same amount of power, was quicker off the blocks (turbo lag), and was easier to maintain.

Still, the front mount may be a bit more expensive, but way more efficient.

Also somewhat impractical for a daily driver. Having a front mount means it's constantly being battered by road debris, and increases the risk of a crack. Putting the intercooler on top means it's protected.

I thought people put forcefields around their front mount!

Actually, you have to admit though, if your front mount gets damaged, your bumper would take the damage as well. It's not like those things hang 1" above the ground...

sure they would take a little damage, but that would be one big rock to break it.
