looking for a new NOTEBOOK

i've agreed to help my buddy, who knows very little about computers, purchase a new notebook
he will NOT be using it to play games... only movies, music, internet browsing and school work
i told him he should invest in something that wont be obsolete in a year or two
his max price before taxes is $1000-1100 CAD (canadian $)
this one has caught my eye:

comes with everything he needs and some things he might need down the line like bluetooth

trouble is, i don't have very much experience with notebooks
that's why i'm here
can anyone recommend a good brand/series (excluding Dell and HP please) ?

This one is nice for it's price,also with 128mb of video memory you could easily play half life 2 on high settings
