Making HL2 Harder!

I am trying to make HL2 Harder. I have already taken the
crosshairs off but I can't think of anything else to
edit that would make it harder but within realistic parameters.

Any ideas?

Are there any mods out there that you would recommend?

SMOD Tactical (iirc) makes all the weapons super powerful so enemies takes less hits but so do you. It does make it a lot harder, so I'm told.

You could also try editing the sprint effectiveness and duration. You could make the flashlight last less time, you could lower the base speed (although that might risk making it tedious). You could change the weapons so they carry less maximum ammo and make it so ammo pickups give you less ammo.
