Hello i've made a new editing site dedicated to Source Engine mapping, we are expecting to have reviews on custom maps, and also a gaming server for the communtiy in the near future.

We are also a great communtiy. Please check us out at

http://www.hl2mapping.com

Thank you for your interest

Gross web design layout :dozey: I must have seen that same css style like 30 times now.

But anyway, I suggest adding tutorials. People love tutorials. And an editing forum. People love those too. So do I.

Edit - silly me, you do have tutorials. I just didn't notice them ;)

2nd Edit - http://www.hl2mapping.com/request.php?download.14 Pictures don't work?

nice looking site. ill visit it often now.

you should consider hosting a weekly, public playtest of submitted maps. password protect the game server and post that password in a news post on the front page. for instance, that week's newly-submitted maps should be added to a mapcycle and played on that server during a pre-defined span of time, such as from 8pm-10pm. a definite requirement of such a system is that at least one hl2mapping.com admin with rcon abilities should be present during the playtest to switch maps when a majority of users within the server decide a map sucks or to decide a particular map's time has run out.

such an approach would TRULY be unique and i think your site would quickly become a trend setter. if i had the bandwidth, i would implement such a system myself but, obviously, i don't so i think it's a good idea for me to share this idea with you to benefit the HL2 and greater source engine community. such a system could quickly accelerate your site to the top of the HL2 most-visited website list by offering such a unique service where relatively anonymous mappers are given the lime light once a week. think of it as friday night map stand up (although hopefully the maps arent so bad they're funny :))

please respond to this with comments.

sounds like a good idea to me hehe :P

might think about creating somthing like this myself if they dont do it :P

Yeah, I think you should try and make an original design rather than some template. I'm sure it would make more visitors stay rather than just visit once then leave.

who cares what it looks like. if the content is good people will stay. look at tomshardware.com. that site looks like total shit but tons of people visit there everyday for the CONTENT.

I didn't.

It's not a template that 100s of other sites have.

i'd rather use a nice-looking template than an ass-looking custom made design

Well, I always prefer simple, 2-3 color layouts. If I can get to the content without hassle I'll love the site. But everything seems so jumbled up, like you're adding features that really don't belong. Writing a simple notepad site with a cool looking banner and all the links shown clearly is what would make me visit more often. Plus, you need content...unique tutorials that cover some of the over-looked points of Hammer or XSi along with some easily browsed screenshots of new maps is helpful.
