Memory Read error

Since the people over at the official forums dont seem to be able to help.

Well, i got HL2 for xmas and have been playing through it. I got up to "we dont go to ravenholm...", quite near the end of it, where a barnicle sucks u up after youre in the water. Rite when i get to the top of the barnacle sucking me up, it freezes, i get the error. My brother then staretd a new game of half life (overwriting my save games, god damn him) and he only got to the 2nd lvl, where it froze when he got sucked up by a barnacle.


"The instruction at "0x241f94f7" referenced memory at "0x0d7cf41c". The memory could not be "read".

Click on "OK" to terminate program.


I had my CPU and GFX card overclocked, and the game was runnign better than ever when my hardware was overclocked. Ive brought everything back down now that this happened, and still no luck.

Anyone got any advice?

Connect 3d x800GTO
2gb Crucial Value RAM

Ive ran 8 hours of memtest without errors, 8 hours of prime95 without errors.

EDIT: Forgot this aswell. Im also getting the ammo bug where it only shows half of the numbers, i never had this before

I can't remember the exact solution to the reference to memory error but as for the half numbers showing, it's usually where you change the resolution without restarting the game.

Isn't it simple? Don't get sucked up by barnacles

(You can use the 'noclip' cheat to fly out of the holes, don't forget to set 'sv_cheats' to 1 (sv_cheats 1) )

I tryed one fix, dont know why i chose this one but i tryed it. I turned the pagefile off. Ive just played up to the start of ravenholm and have been sucked up by barnicles a few odd times, it seems fixed!

Thanks for that though, just incase it happens again!

Button <<< of 1/! isnt it for console? (just got HL2)

The ~ is for console, you've just got to enable it. Go into options, keyboard, advanced. check the box next to "Enable Developer Console (~)"
