Has anyone else played this mod?

I'm blown away by it. It's insane.

In the mod, things from a weird parallel universe come into our world and start attacking with gigantic ships that do crazy stuff.

It features:

a. Running from a giant metal box.

b. Fighting alongside combine striders and gunships (the combine are allies in the mod).

c. Destroying a flying robot-metal-thing that generates tons and tons of poison zombies.

Only problem is I can't figure out how to beat the boss that keeps generating circles of manhacks in that room where the wind keeps pushing you back. Anyone know how to beat him?

im playing this now too im also stuck where you are as well. al i know is the is best mod ive played extermely wierd and fun.

Its not a mod. Neither is Minerva.

Semantics my friend. The word "mod" is such a vague term and the community has yet to agree on a concrete definition. He could have called it a mappack or whatever but I think mod is fine.

its not a total overhaul for sure, but there seems to be new models and FX in it, so i would say it was modified....not that it matters, either way its damn good.

I only played the first 2 bits before I got bored, so I must have missed the new models...

Oh man, I played a while and LOVED it. I'm at the countryhouse area right now. It's so cool... it has this really weird feeling to it- like, everything reeks of something being amiss. Just... totally awesome.

It's brilliant, yeah. Apart from the constant sense of otherworldli-ness as JNightshade said, it just throws mad, brilliant ideas at you like armandguy throwing popcorn at kids outside the cinema. First giant numbers and letters are dropping from the sky, then you're running from an enormous robotic egg-beater, and then GIANT TRIANGLES attack and then you're fighting INVISIBLE COMBINE and then you're being supported by a STRIDER and a GUNSHIP and then GRAVITY/SPACE/TIME goes INSANE and then you get SUPERPOWERS and SHIT BLOWS UP etc.

I'm really liking this so far. It's got a strong feeling of surrealness that harkens back to some of the better HL1 maps.

Ooh, AAA reviews from those in the know. Pity I'm at Uni and Steam's port is b0rked.

I just finished my second playthrough of Mistake of Pythagoras. It is really a great piece of art. There are a few secrets within the game I was wondering if anyone else came across:

(Big spoilers)

  • Bluecat hint: I am not sure where this secret is. If you read the discussion page on the Valve wiki (here) they talk about the numbers 13475802 and 20857431. I am going to keep searching for this one (I think it must be before the yellowdog hint).
  • Yellowdog hint: Carry one of the plus signs (the ones you remove from the tunnels with the grav gun) through the level change on the first part of "Space That Begins..." (ks_mop_pita1 -> ks_mop_pita2). Keep carrying the plus sign to the second room and look for an empty spot in the wall (with some broken pieces on the ground). Place it into the empty spot with the grav gun (after killing all the headcrabs) and a tunnel opens up and reveals a portal. Inside you get this sequence of colors:

    Blue
    Yellow
    Orange
    Red
    Blue
    Purple
    Green
    Pink

After that you teleport back to the beginning of the level.
  • White block: after you do the yellow dog hint there is a big white block you can nudge around using the gravity gun. If you are quick enough (run past the headcrabs) you can see one of the tiles in the hallway turn from white to black. I am not sure what to do here, but it seems like the white block does something with this tile. You can use noclip to see which tile is the one that changes.
  • Theorem room: in the theorem room there are 8 colored areas, and sets of numbers. You have to somehow combine the clues (yellowdog hint and bluecat hint) to unlock another secret. I have no idea what to do here.
  • More I'm sure... has anyone else found any?

I really enjoyed this mod, the themes (balance, nature, dark and light, good and evil, math, mystery, etc), the surreal moments, the architecture, the music. It's not perfect but it is a very nice change of pace. I hope we will see more!

There was far too much "WTF?" going on for my liking, and far, far too many "what the hell am I supposed to do now?" moments, which are a huge no-no in my book.

Yeah, I must say there's a thin line between difficult problems and problems just being obtuse through bad design. I was playing Afraid of Monsters, which on the whole is very good, but there was this one bit where there was this bit concrete 'plug' and some sign saying something about following god to the devil, or something. Anyway, the first thing I thought was: "OK, now I need to get rid of this plug to go further. My first instinct was to shoot each of the 4 wires that I thought were holding it up. Then I realised that the top wasn't actually attached to anything and so those wires wouldn't have anything to do with holding up a huge concrete cylinder. I scoured the map, wondering if any new doors had opened, but nothing. I got fed up and was about to read the posts in its mod profile to see if any of the spoilers mentioned it, but I thought: "No, that'd be defeatist, there must be a way of figuring this out". I came back and after a long while I found a tiny box at the base of one of these wires which was the same texture as the concrete, and so tiny I hadn't noticed it all this time. It seemed to have no feasible purpose (afterall, how could a 2x6 unit box with no distinguishing features be a reasonable depiction of something that could hold up a hunk of concrete what looked about 2 foot thick) but I shot it anyway. That was a fun puzzle.

Please, if anyone got stuck at the same point -even for just a few minutes- tell me, because it would really piss me off to think I was the only one who didn't notice it and got stuck there for about 20 minutes while I checked the rest of the level for clues. I mean, I started looking for hidden meanings in that quote that might unravel the mystery, I checked every single flat door texture even though I knew they wouldn't be doors. Am I the only one!?

I found the blue cat hint:

(spoilers)

On the second map where you turn the wheel to go under water: instead of swimming down, jump on top of the wheel, then jump up to the control panel. Press the control panel and the wall will disappear directly to your right. You have to be pretty quick or else the manhacks will get you. Go inside the portal and you get this sequence of numbers:

1
3
4
7
5
8
0
2

I'm not sure if there are any more secrets like this, but it seems like you would need one more hint in order to figure out what to do with the numbers and colors...

i think its only downfall was trying to use the prerecorded voices, because you didnt really feel the npc allies knew you were there.

It was a good solid mod (as I've said in other threads), but not up to the standards of Peaces Like Us or Sweet Half-Life.

The ending, however, will go down in history as awesome.

In case you haven't figured this part out yet, try looking at the walls (left side). If you look at some sections of the wall they will spark and start to move. Keep looking long enough and they will fly off and hit the boss. Kill all but one or two of the manhacks to make it easier to dodge them without having them respawn.

Heh. I was stuck there last night - so much so that I gave up playing. I'll start again tonight, thanks for the mini-walkthrough... ;-)
