mod help

Ok I started a new mod. ( note I'm not a complete noob at modding,can map and script a little ) Here's what I did:
1. Opened up source SDK and chose create mod
2. checked "modify hl2 sp"
3. made the name and directory
4. Then ran it in steam
5. ran intro valve video
6. showed main menu for a half second then crashed
7. Said Engine Error can't load library client

So what are the esssentials for making a running mod?
Trust me I have googled everything! I looked through all the 293 tut's on some thread on this site.
