monitor driver vs. video card driver

What's the difference? How come all new monitors come with driver disks and does it make any difference whether or not it's installed? Futhermore, is it possible they could conflict with a video card driver?

The monitor driver iirc just states what resolutions and refresh rates your monitor "should" be able to use. Most new monitors shouldn't need it and are usually plug-n-play.
