Hey all, new here, first thread.

Second Valve member to confirm Sept. 30th. ;)

HALF-LIFE 2 TO RELEASE IN SEPTEMBER, INSISTS VALVE

The words of reassurance we've been longing for - read them inside!

16:21 Half-life 2 at ECTS - it wasn't quite what we'd hoped for, we'll admit it. Y'know, it still looks ace and all, but previously seen E3 footage, previously heard E3 speech, and a ban on questions that might expose any new information whatsoever - what the hell is that?
Oh well, at least developer Valve didn't compound our disenchantment with release date woes.

Despite whisperings of slips, Valve's Doug Lombardi stated: "the release date is unchanged". Top news indeed; that's just over a month away, mathmatically challenged Freeman fans. In the meantime, we'll be running the first part of our interview with Mr Lombardi later today...

He didn't say 'the game is definitely not late', or 'we are on time for the 30th September'... just 'the date is unchanged'. Maybe I'm cynical, but something a little stronger would have been nice.

Yea true... but think of it this way... Gabe Newell promised it would be out the 30th... HMMM maybe we should email him and ask him to do the same thing as Fragmaster if the game DOESNT ship the 30th... Gabe can hand out free copies of HL2 whenever it does ship :P what a grand Idea... Someone email him and see what he says :D

The fact that Gabe has been avoiding the issue suggests to me that there was (at least for a time) some serious doubt about the ship date. Maybe the guys thought they'd need some extra time and Gabe didn't want to drop them in it. Maybe it looked like being delayed, but is now back on schedule.

My theory is that it's either a) due on time or b) so close that they can get away with saying 'it'll be a week later'.

Anyway, we can hope :)

Well, IF Frag is right, then why wont he explain why HL2 will "for sure" not make Sept 30? Is he just on some major power trip or did his mommy just not love him enough?

I'm probably gonna fail my university course because of HL2, it comes out just as i start my first year (if it's on time) and i know once i pop(open the box) i won't be able to stop!

Hey no worries, I almost flunked my first year from a combination of drinking and playing games. Here I am about to go into third year, and I havent flunked yet ;)

The stuff Fragmaster is saying really bothers me....either he knows something we don't, or he is a HUGE ass. Yes, Valve has delayed things in the past, but it's apparently less than a month from going gold and they still say the date is unchanged.

;o this doesnt take a whole lot of guesswork ;o

Its obvious they are not sure if they will hit the deadline or not. Gabe has been saying for a while now "no comment" as to when it will come out. He obviously doesnt know, or is not confident enough in the official date to say sept. 30th. Also this guy just said "it will be tight", so obviously there is a very good chance of them not making the date.

Just because the date not been changed yet doesnt mean its anymore likley that it will come out in sept. The developers obviously arent sure it will be out on time, so you shouldnt be either.

Of course we arent "sure", its simply wishful thinking, so dont ruin it for us ok? You dont see me trying to convince you that Doom 3 will be nothing more than a glorified tech demo that will run on all of 10 computers or so in the world.

Probably both :(

If they release the SDK in the next few weeks...I'll be 100% convinced!

Does Fragmaster qualify as the new Comical Ali (Minister of Denial) ;)
"There are no copies of HL2 available in the country and never will be....50 copies of HL2 please,I lost a bet".

* Fragmaster is being a bit unreasonable. He's one of the people who think that they know how far Half Life 2 is in developement. I think Valve is in a better postition to know that, don't you think?

* Gabe said the no comment thing once. He hasn't been "Saying it for a while", he said it ONCE. In an interview. If anyone would like to point out somewhere else he said it, feel free.

* There is actually a comment now, so they must be pretty confident.

* "Tight" doesn't mean it's likely to be delayed. Tight means they are going to have to work hard to get it done, but it will be done, unless something drastic comes up.

As far as I understand it, Crunch time is a pretty normal thing for Games Developers. I mean, a programmer for Starcraft took his laptop with him when his wife was in labour. It's not new that crunch time is "tight".

Read that Angst Technology comic onwards for a view of Crunch time.
