So, while I was drinking and doing this....My heart was racing about as fast as if I ran a 200 mile race.

It was the Sewers portion of No Mercy. We dropped down into the hole, and we heard it....the evil, grunty and fat breathing of the Tank. There were 4 of us alive, and nobody with a Molotov...shit.

We begin to walk towards the first "T" intersection, but Zombies were EVERYWHERE. We threw the only pipe-bomb we had, and got rid of the slackers. We know EXACTLY where the Tank was, but we did not dare look. He was to the left, about 10 feet.....It happened! We got his attention.

He grunted and charged us. We were frozen with fear....nobody knew what to do. One of us *Louis was the bot, so he stayed behind in the corner and started shooting.* The Tank, liking the damage he was getting, charged up Louis. While he fell to the ground, the rest of us ran for the extra room towards the exit. I find a pipe-bomb on the side, picking it up while running my ass off. I see that Louis has died, and we weren't even CLOSE to escaping.

I hear the Tank coming up behind us, while Francis fell to the Tank. That gave us some time! We booked it towards the room with some extra ammo, while hoping the Tank doesn't appear....but the Zombies.....they charged us. I (Bill) got knocked down, while Zoe was fending off the horde. After the end of the rush, Zoe helped me up......while getting up, I saw the room shake like hell. I stand up, throw some pills in my mouth and haul balls. Unfortunately, Zoe fell to the Tank. I used this time to run out of the tight corridor and run for the ladder around the corner. I forget about ACTUALLY fighting, and just melee/shoot the ones about to hit me. I see the door that lead to the ladder that got me outside! I throw my last remaining pipe-bomb, leading the Zombies away from me. I run through the door, idiot Zombies running past me for the beeping.....I exit the room and I round the corner....and THERE, the ladder!!! I rush towards it, hearing the tank finally coming up behind me.

I leap onto the ladder, Zombies lashing at me...life dwindling down. I hit 15 health before I finally got away from those pesky bastards, the Tank yelling at me while I climb. I peak my head above the surface, the Zombies are everywhere. I decide I can't live if I stay and fight, so I just run. Zombies to my left, Zombies to my right. I melee charging ones, not wanting to waste ANY time towards the safe room, located safely in the Hospital. I enter the front doors, and wouldn't you know it, Zombies AROUND THE FRONT DESK, where the Saferoom door is. I melee them away, all while having 5 health from the bleeding, and leap the desk. I turn around to see around 20+ Zombies charging at me. I spin to shut the saferoom door, with safety afterwards, but A FREAKING BOOMER IS INSIDE WITH ME!!?!? I melee the Boomer, then shotgun his face. He explodes in a fury of blood, while the rest of the Zombies outside charge. I BARELY shut the door, milliseconds before the horde busts through.

I made it. I will never live up to THAT run.

I was rather sceptical when looking at the first few gameplay videos. Though after reading reviews and so many people talking about how great L4D is including CyperPitz here i have been convinced. I need to.. uhm try the demo. Though i will possibly end up buying it regardless of how the demo is. Heck.. it's made by valve so quality ensues.

I don't think the demo is available anymore.

Also great story.

That's a great story. Reminds me of my second "successful" rooftop finale in No mercy. The chopper was just landing and three of us were alive. We all decided to make a simultaneous run for the chopper, but a Tank appeared completely out of the blue and started bashing one of us into bits. My friend and I continued our rush towards the chopper. I was ahead of my friend, but since I was bleeding and limping, me and my friend reached the helipad around the same time. However, during those last few metres, my friend managed to pass me. The tank, charging right behind us, killed me with a quick strike at the exact same time my friend jumped into the chopper just in front of my nose. He escaped, the tank pounding his chest over my dead body right in front of the chopper. It was simply epic! We were laughing and screaming at each other as the credits were rolling. I love it how they dedicate the "movie" to those who died. :)

Oh and btw, WacK, if you plan on checking out the "demo" as you put it, please remember that playing the game with real people is _much more fun_. The bots are pretty good but you just don't get the same feeling as you do playing with people.

Truth. The bots do wonderfully to fill in temporarily for one or even two survivors if they have to leave the game or otherwise get disconnected. Playing single-player with all bots is a very watered down experience.

I was not overly impressed with the demo, but I am really enjoying the full version, especially versus mode. I've had great fun as a zombie and survivor, especially well coordinated attacks as zombies to take down the survivors. I think I enjoy using the smoker and hunter the most, tank is awesome of course and bloater is fun, hell I guess I like them all. I've found it really fun stalking someone who tends to stray just enough from the group and take him down. One guy on subway had gone down a level to get more ammo leaving his teammates above fighting a horde, I was a hunter and easily caught him off guard while he was trying to decide on what gun to pick hehe. Anyways l4d is alot of fun, it can be mediocre if you play by yourself at best, but with friends and in versus mode, that is where it really shines.

This all reminds me MY rooftop finale. I was fighting with the whole f*cking Horde. Then, when everything seemed quiet,i allowed myself a break from the machine gun. Wonnie-wonnie, a Tank came and hit me almost off the roof. A friend saved me and another two went to kill that thing. One fell and other one backed down. Coward :hmph: . Tank kept beating the fallen guy and i found a Molotov in the corner. I threw it and killed the fallen guy and the tank. Then a big Horde came and, with only my pistols, we backed the hell down to machine gun. A Hunter got me and i only almost got away. Then another Tank came and i sacrificed my self. Jumped into the centre of the horde and threw pipe bomb to there. I died but others got away. It was really epic.

^ROFL

I love how you can tell cinematic stories with this game.

Can't do that in COD.

Naughty Pitz, gaming and drinking!

I'm gonna play L4D with a few drinks tonight :) - should be good!

Last night I was on infected team, the last 2 survivors alive made it to the safety room but before they could close the door, a teammate who was a hunter pounced on one of them, at the same time I snatched a hold of the other and pulled him out whille a horde of zeds attacked him. For some reason that server had alltalk on, the 2 survivors did not sound happy with the ending :p

You'll come to realize that if you're talking to me in game, I'm more than likely intoxicated.

Best moment ingame so far for me-
2 survivors, me and my mate steve. Suddenly a boomer pops out of nowhere and vomits on him, and the horde pop out of every crevice. I turn my back on him and run to the safe room. He takes a minute, but runs after me.
"****ING HELP ME, MAN!" he says over the mic.
"survival of the fittest, mate. survival of the fittest." I close the saferoom door on him and watch him get owned on the other side.
I giggled a little.

Why didn't you guysd just shoot everything you had at the tank, with the person with aggro playing chicken (I.E. running for your life)?.

Still, sounds epic, shame you left your team to die though.

I lol'ed, but I've never played with people who leave others to die, strange that HL2.net stories seem to involve allot of that, I've always found that a team that watches eachs other's back even when everything is going balls up seem to do infinitely better then saving your own ass at the first sign of trouble.

I remember one game with friends on the rooftops of dead-air, I slipped and was clinging to the edge as the zombie horde was attacking, then a friend came to save me somehow ended up clinging to the edge to. Later a tank fell off and the two surviving guys were lol'ing then all you see is a burning tank climbing the building and they are like "soh shit!". Hehe, good times.

If you can kill an Expert tank in those damned sewers with Zombies all around you while he has at LEAST 50% health left...by all means, include me on your gosu'ness. I needed to survive, otherwise that level was for nothing!

He came out of a closet later, and I told him to stop bitching.
So yeah, Im a bad person

I hate people who bitch, "WHY DID YOU LEAVE MEE??!!?!"

Because, if I didn't, we'd lose and have to spend the 5 minutes going through it all again, or you can wait 2 minutes and spawn in a closet.

haha this is awesome. did you guys actually finish the campaign?

We were on the roof tops in Dead Air and a tank came after us just after we lowered the crane.

He took out two of us, knocking one off the roof and killing him and pounding the other down to death while myself (Francis) and my remaining teammate (Bill) fought off a horde, and Bill rescued me from a smoker.

So then it was just me, Bill, and the tank. Bill was on top of the container lowered by the crane sniping at the tank, and I was on the building next to the windows you climb into - the hotel, i think?

I was running laps around the structure in the middle of the roof, letting the tank chase me, shooting back whenever i could, while Bill sniped at him. i figured we'd eventually kill him this way. After about 3 laps, I came around the corner to find myself face to face with the tank who was either smart enough to figure out the plan, or stupid enough to get stuck and forget to chase me.

Either way, i screamed and turned around and jumped the gap between the two buildings. The tank didn't jump, he ran off and fell all the way down to the street.

He didn't die, the music kept playing... but both Bill and I assumed he just wouldn't make it back up, so we continued on. After a little bit, since the music was still playing but he was clearly trapped in the streets, I said into my mic "Well he's not dead but there's no way he'll be able to reach us now".

Bill said into the mic "The hell he can't!" and at that very moment the tank burst through the next door we were about to pass through. I about had a heart attack hahaha.. I found a molotov and lit him up, ran back out to the roofs and jumped the gap again, hoping he'd fall and die from the fire before he reached us again. He ended up dieing just before he reached the gap anyway.

Awesome.

I love this game.

I gotta admit, my first impression was 'meh'. But after I got to seriously playing I was just blown away by how tight and fun this game really is. I never thought I'd be the type to really enjoy a zombie game but this thing has so much polish that it's impossible not to be very satisfied playing this.

Got some info on the voice actors:

Bill is played by Jim French, who did Father Grigori in HL2

Zoey is played by Jen Taylor, who played Cortana from Halo, Jessica from SiN Episodes and Peach in numerous Mario games since 1999.

Zoey dies, respawns in a closet, you go over and it's just one of those ****ing toads who's all "I'm sorry, your survivor is in another closet".

Ive only left 1 guy to die on purpose, he kept running way ahead of everyone and he would never attempt to help anyone else on the team so we just agreed to let him die. For what it was worth, he did serve a purpose. Human pipe bomb.

Hehe.

I had my first game where we chose to get the win leaving others behind a few nights back "just go without me man!, we'll only slow you down, safety is right there *zombie mob and bosses* RUUUUUUUUUUN!"

Last night on Dead Air was pretty nuts.

After several reloads we finally managed to get through the airport, managed to shoot off a sneaky hunter, and we were so badly hurting it was nuts.

I tell ya, when I was walking alonsige those big windows in the departure lounge all black and white vision and heart beating sound, knowing one unlucky hit and I was gone with safety just up there, ugh, first time I ever felt slight panic to get to a safe house.

Really though it was just because we kept dying so much I just wanted to end it. Twas a good game.

I sometimes love having games where you get a bit reckless. Like there was a a hunter and loads of zombies round a floored survivor so I chucked a fuel can in and set them all on fire. It was best for the team.

Farrow and toaster can confirm that I'm quite obsessed with fire. :E

Some awesome storys guys. I remember earlier tonight with my friend, Xevrex and Rogue Trooper on Dead Air - Advanced.

We were all pretty low on HP and I got knocked down by a hunter just as the Second tank arrives and takes out one of the others (Xevrex I think). They managed to kill the tank, Rogue ran over to me and got me up just before the back of the plane opened and the masses of Zombies poured towards us. We ran slowly for the plane, my friend Joey getting knocked down outside the plan while I dived in the back and trying to fight them off. There was too many of them as Rogue jumped inside and the back of the plane door lifted, leaving Joey to be beaten by the 30 or so zombies and a tank.

Me and Rogue survived. Good fun, not the MOST epicness I've ever had in the game but the most recent and definatley fun at the time.

In the last scene of dead air, me and all other three team members survived and had started refueling the plane. We all stood on the oil tank and fended off every zombie hordes and tanks we met. Finally, the back gangplank of the plane opened. Me and one of my teammates had only 25% health left. A horde of zombies descended upon us. So we kept shoving the zombies and stumbled towards the plane. Two other team members arrived at the plane a few seconds earlier. The covered us with shotgun and rifle from inside the plane. When I and another teammate had just boarded onto the plane gangplank, the other two teammates incapacitated us thanks to their reckless cover fire. So we two fell down INSIDE the plane whilst the plane door went shut. When the "credit" was shown, we were counted as dead. wtf.

Yeah, it's annoying. If you're incapped and inside the vehicle when the campaign ends, you're counted as dead.

I remembered after playing the third map on Dead Air over and over and over again on expert with some guys, after finally being so close to the safe room, i got in, but 2 survivors were left behind and were down and a massive horde was approaching. Instead of rescueing them because that would take to much time, i shot them instead so they would die, and then i could get to the safe room before the horde caught up to me... Then closed it a milisecond before they started pouring in, and we finally after teh 50th time got passed that level...

I played a game the other night with some blokes I'd not played with before through the Blood Harvest campaign.
We were up to the finale and 2 dropped out and were replaced with bots, then shortly after another guy replaced a bot.
So we were up to the last stand waiting for the vehicle, beat the first tank and were fighting the second Horde. I went down due to being the most active attacking player, trying to take down the infected before they could get to my mates, so someone on my team helped me up.
After which the second tank emerged, which we beat and the rescue vehicle showed up, at which point I was overcome and went down again, and promptly helped to my feet. We all began to run for rescue, but the guy that joined on the last map ran the other way to the rest of us and went down on the other side of the house. I was at 13 health and another tank had just shown up, was I **** going back for him. The other player did go back to save him, when I was nearly at the escape APC. I saw him go down before he could even reach him, then the tank and the horde run at him, with 13 health I could not save him, it would be suicide, so I got in the APC, leaving him behind to die, thus getting my Achievement.
He called me a wimp and said I should have helped him, but if I had, we all would have died.
I also know he would have done the same.

What an awesome ending though.

I once played a rousing game of hide-and-seek on the last map of blood harvest. It was epic. (but i think the zombies were cheating)

On a side note, ever find yourself tired of always having to aim when playing shooting games? Well worry no more! I have found a sweet L4D Aimbot! Just type the following in the console:

Code:
bind mouse1 "go_away_from_keyboard"

Anyone here actually had to choose between saving a partner or finishing the campaign, and choose the partner?

In those cases I usually save myself, but complement it with a high-pitched "I'll always remember youuuuuuuuuuu!" through my mic.

Anyone here actually had to choose between saving a partner or finishing the campaign, and choose the partner?

It depends. Do I either finish campaign with leaving the guy to die because I know I won't live.....or weigh the odds of saving him and winning.

Most cases, he's ****ed.

I was such a bastard yesterday. I joined a No Mercy game around chapter 3 and fought with three guys until the finale, where we were winning and the 'copter came. I was closest to the helipad so I made a run for it so I could lay down some M16 fire from the top of the ramp, and I thought ''hey, It'd feel pretty badass if I was to sit INSIDE the helicopter giving covering fire! **** yeah Vietnam!'' so I jumped inside the heli and it takes off leaving the other three guys for dead!

It confused me a little because when getting into escape vehicles previously and after, we've all been together but they haven't left without people when someone goes in first, so I presume it must know when people are in the proximity of the entrance ramp/door and when they aren't. The survivors in No Mercy were quite far away from me, I just honestly thought it wouldn't leave until it was 100% sure they *might* not make it, like they get incapitated or something.
