Movement key problem

I've searched the forums, but can't confirm anyone else with this problem yet:

It seems on certain areas of levels, or after a certain amount of time, I get hit with a movement problem.

It's happened in closed corridors with no heavy graphics to worry about, it's happened outside, inside, on many different levels... what occurs, is that I can hit my left strafe/right strafe/forward or reverse key, and I won't move unless I keep the key held down for a few seconds. This also affects using the flashlight.

Most recently,
parts of Raveholm, and the building with a battle between the combine and your alliance, just before getting to the buggy level have suffered this problem.

Action on the screen appears normal, I can use my mouse to look around and fire without issues...

If I restart HL2, the problem will disappear for a few minutes, then after a few more minutes, it will go away.

My specs and config:

P4 2.4 Ghz
1GB 3200 RAM
2x80GB 7200 RPM drives in a single drive (striped)- RAID0 config.
SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - latest driver
Gyration wireless mouse/keyboard (25ft radio frequency) - fresh batteries, no keyboard/mouse issues elsewhere

Display:
1024x768 all detail on high, 4xAA, 8x AF
ASUS v9999 Gamer - nVidia 6800 OC w/256MB driver 66.93 Nov 9

I've shut off unnecessary services, NAV is turned off... it just becomes a bit of an annoyance for a few minutes at a time.

Solutions anyone?

Presumably it isn't swapping. I can't help but feel the above (wireless keyboard) is the problem somehow though, I've never heard of that problem as described. Is it possible to try a permanent keyboard temporarily/etc?

I too have had a problem with the movement; at random points during the game my right strafe key goes nuts and i will find it very difficult to move forward- I end up bouncing off the walls. The only thing to do is either wait for it to stop doing it or randomly press all the directional keys.

I first noticed this behaviour in CS:S a few days ago, just after I had installed my Saphire X800XT, previous to that I had a Radeon 9500 and did not have any movement problems, nor does this problem occur in any other games I play.

My keyboard and mouse are not directly connected to my PC as I use a KVM switch so I can access my other two PCs; I'm wondering if HL 2 has a problem with certain makes of KVMs?

My rig:

WinXP Prof. SP 2
2GB memory
Saphire X800XT
P4 3.2GHz HT
Albatron motherboard with Intel 875 chipset
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

Yeah, the Gyration keyboard is somewhat suspect I suppose... though I really like the keyboard, and haven't had one issue with it at any other point. I really don't want to use something else...

If communication starts to go on them, it will be due to nearly dead batteries, and you will note that keys won't respond at all, until they are left for a few moments. This isn't the case, because if I hold the key long enough, it will respond. It will also get "stuck" at moments until I hold another key on the keyboard for a second. I can also see the communication light go on the keyboard and RF receiver, so I know they are working well.

I'll throw another keyboard on the system to see what gives... though I highly suspect that there is something chewing up resources in the game, and the system cannot process the keyboard IRQ request in time.

Otherwise, this problem should affect other applications, which it does not.
