Simple question: Is it possible to play MP3's while playing Half-Life 2? I mean, that would be awesome. Like in GTA III and Vice City. I would love it! :D

I'm wondering because there is rarely any music while playing Half-Life 2...and I've got some great songs. :D

There's no easy way, if that helps. :p You could always just turn the music down and play winAMp in the background or something.

I'll take any way. I can handle it. ;)

I want to enable the music to play whenever there is gunfire. Or just in places of where there isn't HL2 music playing.

1. run winamp
2. do some kind of playlist and play it
3. run half life 2

Right, well I don't know if it would work...here it is anyway:

1. Open up the sound cache file, and note down what each music file is called. Then, grab a replacement mp3 for each file (it may have to be of equal hz etc.) and name each one accordingly.

2. Go into the Half-Life 2 folder (NOT the one in the cache file, the one that is generated in the fgolder named after your username). From there, go into "hl2", and create a folder called "sound", and then "music". Place your replacements in this folder.

That SHOULD cause Steam to use those mp3 files instead of the ones in the cache files (for all the original Half-Life based games, Steam seems to check outside the cache files first, before using the cahced files). If not, then meh. :P

Thanks Kage. I'll try that to see if it works.

practically, you are asking for an integrated HL2 mp3 player with game triggers support. it's not ANYTHING.

There is a tool called winamp key controller (http://www.mp3machine.com/software/...ponent/2003/3/9/P/Winamp_KeyController_v4.exe), which let's you control the player through a series of commands on the keyboard. With this winamp overrides every other program running.
I use it all the time with desktop-software, HL2 needs all of my RAM though =)
I still use WinAmp 5 for everyday music stuff...but I use foobar2000 for that purpose. It's a smaller program, it uses less resources, and it has built-in global key binding. It's perfect for running in the background while gaming.

It's a stand-alone application then? Do you have a link?
