Music & .net Framework

I had .net framework on my PC at one time and wasn't using it. I uninstalled it. Now I want to extract the music from Half LIfe 2 and when I try to re-install .net from the Microsoft Update page it fails to install. I've read some of the material on troubleshooting this problem but I get confused easily.

I'm hoping my problem is something simple and maybe if someone has had this problem they could save me some time.

I'm still using SP1. Could this be an issue?

Don't install it through Windows Update, you can download a setup .exe from MS's site, just google '.net framework', im too lazy to get a direct link.

Thanks for your response guys.

I downloaded the file dotnetfx.exe and tried to install.

Got a message that the installation stopped prematurely and installation failed.

I'm thinking maybe I had a bad uninstall from my original .net installation. (That install went smooth.)

Is there a clean tool for .net Framework?

i remember when i uninstalled .net framework, it assed my entire network and internet settings up.....i daren't touch it again now
