Just playing this on DX9 system...

And noticed on "Our Mutual Fiend" while fighting the striders, that my game seems to be missing visual detail, theres no fog throughout the valley. :( Ive got all settings on max, this really seems to give the game alot more life & I don't have it.

Heres a screen from the trailer:

And heres a screen from my game without the foggy looking atmosphere.

Is there a tweak to get this or something? Maybe this is a DX10 only feature?

thx....

Which trailer is that one? The one with the soldiers in the final area alongside gunships and the actual quota of Striders and Hunters? It's massively outdated. I'm pretty sure there is no fog in the final thing.

yea that trailer is outdated, but still, I would have thought the fog would have stayed. It looks so much better...

I have seen it in an early open map.

the trailer says on it XBOXYDE, so maybe it was only on console version. :((((

The console versions are identical. If the fog caused performance issues it would have been removed. Alternatively, since fog has typically been used in 3D games as a cheap way of obscuring big areas, it was found that leaving it out was actually more impressive when they found the engine to be up to the job.

Either that, or playtesters complained that enemies weren't easy enough to see because the fog obscured them. Just like playtesters piss-whined about having soldiers and gunships in the maps and Valve ignore the possibility of keeping the challenge in harder difficulty settings for people who aren't utter chumps.

good point....

I was angry there was no combine solders to fight, too easy. man I srsly wish I could get fog.:frown:

Does this game on vista with good gpu's offer any DX10 features?

I'm pretty amazed how good it looks on XP compared to half life 2 of 2004, its stunning.

But is there more with DX10 like with crysis?

thxs.

I don't believe so. My recollection is that some of the features of OB Source are DirectX 10 spec, but Valve supposedly worked them into DirectX 9 anyway.

I was shocked actually, at how striking the difference between running a Radeon 9800 Pro and my new Radeon HD4850 isn't. Sure everything looks better, I can run AA / AF at max and HD has been added in, but Valve were very intelligent in building up the fundamentals to work on older cards, with the special effects adding the icing on the cake later on.

heres what I meant by fog early on in the game:

Looks so dam good, & so **** without... Any modders that can make it possible for fog in "mutual fiend"?

Tbh there seems to be 0 improvement really...just makes detail harder to see IMHO.

even the lighting in the orginal made the game have kind of deep feeling to it which i liked.
