since single player is so revolutionary it wouldnt make much sense to have the same old mp game types in half life2. I think they should take a cue from rtcw Enemy territory and add some classes and role playing to multiplayer. Maybe they could have an ongoing war for earth between the resistance and combine soldiers..you can choose either side, throw in some objectives and add classes. What do you all think? I think I'll be really disappointed if they dont bring something new to multiplayer....CTF and DM is just so...yesterday

hey, i like capture the flag and DM!!
it would be nice to have a story to go along with it, cool idea, i just cant wait to play the SP though

ya I like it too...but for Unreal or quake....hl2 deserves something better

I'm all for innovative new modes, but I need the solid foundation of good ol' Deathmatch too.

heh, all i know is that if we ever get bored with the mp, we can mod a new, better one

that's what counterstrike is for

No, Counterstrike is a team-based scenario-oriented game. HLDM is deathmatch. Deathmatch Classic is deathmatch.

Nothing is greater then HLDM. Remember that and it shall help you through life.

I'd like to see something like that, I don't think Gordon should be playable in the MP but you have two teams consisting of Resistance and Combine Soldiers. This would be fun especially if the Resistance movement is developed throughout the storyline of the single player. They would be more like Guerillas, not really regular old citizens. Maybe it would be a bit like the story of the Terminator where the Human Resistance fights off the Machines and Skynet.

HLDM was great, but it's not the best multiplayer in the world. there is better stuff out there. Now, i'm not saying HLDM is bad, hell it's wonderful. My point is it laid the foundation for bigger and better stuff. It's like saying Mario is the best side scroller in the world. No, IMO it isn't. it is great, but there is better stuff than that. It just laid the base for bigger and better stuff i.e. super metroid to come out later, just like HL laid a foundation for Halo or UT multiplayer.

As far as deathmatch go me and my friends still play HLDM the most. Second place goes to UT2k4.

I've been playing DM for years, time for a change

just having the same old DM and CTF is short changing hl2 as a whole. Why have the best single player game in the genre but just a mediocre multiplayer?

actually, i'm suddenly thinking that hl2 mp is going to be svencoop2...valve said at one point that "they are going to be working closely with the sven team....but the sven team hasn't said anything about it, though you would think that they would get the sdk early if valve wants to help out and support it

*agrees wholehearthedly*

I like DM way more than I like all of that co-operative crap. Mainly because I hate co-operating with other people, I'd rather just kill them.

Valve probably don't -really- need to put so much work in multiplayer, to be honest. At least not for the original release.

Compare single player mods with multiplayer mods, compared with studio created single player campaigns and studio created multiplayer experiences.

Studio's are by far and away better at creating single player campaigns than the mod community is, and usually the mod community is much better at creating multiplayer mods (when given a good base to start with). So it makes sense that valve should concentrate on their strengths (or concentrate on mod-makers weaknesses) and let other people work more in the multiplayer arena.

I just think it doesnt make sense for them to devote so much time to a unique single player game only to create a half-assed multi-player. It would hurt the overall game. I can almost see the reviews:

"Half life2 great single player, too bad the multiplayer sucks"

Just because CptStern doesn't like it means it's half-assed, apparently.

At least consider the fact that some people really enjoy deathmatch and hope that it's an included multiplayer game mode, among whatever others will be available with Half-Life 2.

I havent played hl2 so I dont know what it will be like. I'm just saying if I wanted to play DM I'd play UT2004 or quake. HL2 just screams for a team based objective multiplayer gametype...it can still have DM but I probably wont play that much of it. Some of you guys are way too defensive when it comes to HL2. It's just an opinion.

I think they are doing that anyway
