Need opinions about Mod idea

Here's an idea I came up with for a mod.

It's the year 2069 and global warming is causing mayhem. Sudden rises and decreases in temperature, and freak storm of all kind are happening more frequently. The scientist whom you play he has been to a meeting about this sudden change in climate. Due to severe storms, the safest way to travel in long distances is by aircraft. But is still at high risk... As he is travelling back to America, during the night, the helicopter gets hit, and it plummets towards the ocean and he blacks out.

He finds himself washed up on a beach and can see no sign of the pilot. So he decides to find shelter and sleeps. When he wakes up he steps out of the cavern and finds that the beach is roasting. When he steps out onto the sand, he burns easily. "I knew I should have bought some sun tan..." he jokes. As he looks towards the sea it is all misty, probably because of the extremely high temperatures. He spots a corpse, the corpse of the pilot, and takes his knife, handgun, compass, bag and a bottle. The knife is a bit blunt, the handgun has a few magazines, the compass seems to be working and the bottle is empty.

The idea is to survive and leave the island. In order to do so, you have to find water, gather materials and be generally resourceful. There is 2 major problems of course;

a) Stepping out into the sunlight during the day is suicide
b) There are animals within the jungle...

These animals are hungry and hot! And they won't take kindly to you. I'm talking about reptiles, snakes, birds, bats, and even deadlier, piranhas and lions! If this does go down as a good idea and takes off we would need to do some research first.

In terms of graphics, there is no HUD, kind of. You can check things like how much water is in the bottle by viewing it, when you do, a icon appears in a corner of the screen showing how much you have left but after 3-5 seconds it fades away. To check your ammo, you push a key ("Q" for example"), and you open the bag, which is like this,

And your ammo is counted; you can push the use key to take one clip or the "Q" key to exit. The same is done for the compass.

When you want to collect water you simply drop into the water (Physics) and collect the bottle again.
When you get deeper into the jungle you find more water sources but at the same time there is larger animals. Things like bridges over cliffs and any other idea similar to Indy Jones could be nice to keep the player interested.

I still don't have an idea for an ending but I would rather like to see your opinion on my idea.
 
i personally think its an excellent idea and would like to be involved. however i think you need more to it than that. like a few twists n stuff. also what is the point in not beeing aloud on the sand?
 
Because it's boiling fricken hot!

I came up with some more ideas.

When you encounter animals your screen blurs and turns a faint red to signify danger.
I forgot to add a food element. Maybe you can collect food from the animal once you've killed it?

And for twists and stuff, that's the part which needs to be developed :)

I like it, but I think a lot of people will find it a little boring.

Storms could look fricken awesome though.

Make it not like FarCry.
 
I don't really like it. Don't see the adventure you would set players to experience other than to leave the island.... is the global warming gonna get solved or ? what happens when you used your magazines ? then you can just throw your gun away or ? and what is a pilot doing with a gun and a handheld compas anyway? there is a lot of questions leaved unanswered here. Atleast this is my oppinion =)

hahais that not the question we are asking ourselves in real life?

anyway i think it sounds like alot of fun to play. it would however take someone with more experience than me to code that sort of stuff so you may run into problems there. i think the story would deffinetly need alot of thinking about as realisticly people arnt goign to want to just play a game where all u do is eat n drink n stuff. also what i meant about the sand was not why cant you stand on it by what is the point of not beeing able to stand on it? i would like to be involved in this though my email is [email protected] although i am working on a couple of other projects so i would not be able to spend a huge amount of time on it. but i could certainly work on the story and maybe some character and weapon models.
 
I think you should be able to build stuff with the ressources around you. Like make a pair of shoes from wood so the sand doesn't burn your feet. Also making a boat out of wood or stuff like that. This games is pretty interesting but its story needs some tuning :P .
 
hmm so you kind of want the Enter the Tribes ressource system built into this ? ;) Anyway i seriously can't see how this would work out besides becoming a boring sp mod. Sorry
 
can't see how this can be revamped =) He's stuck on an island with vicious animals yay. He has limited bullets and will from then have to use his knife only yay. The objective being to get off the island doesn't seem very good for me hehe but anyway just telling people my oppinion =D will be the last post i do in here
 
well i have some very interesting ideas about it but i do think it would be more suited to the farcry engine.
 
Think people. It's 2069, who the hell knows what could be on this island? Maybe there is a nuclear bunker, or some kind of facility for something. Nuclear Power would probably be the primary power source, but where would the waste go? On the island? If so, there has to be some Radioactive creatures of some kind. I want someone imaginative to make the game interesting :)

How about a halluctionation system? The more scared you are, and the weaker you are, the more blurred the screen becomes, you can see strange abnormal shapes and the world turns dark and scary as hell. Sounds get more intense, things like walking become a momentous task, your reactions are brought to an almost stand-still point.
 
I still think Island + Jungle + Monsters = FarCry.

Hallucination system sounds like it could be neat if done correctly.
 
lol i dont want to join i just have lots of ideas. and want to help it take off. not join!

also i agree with yorick. monsters is going to far. after all farcry was excellent island maps i think it would be hard to beat on the source
 
Do not under any circumstances put monsters in a game unless it's a monster game.

This is not a monster game.

Leave it at animals, and possibly humans and human-created things. But no monsters.
