Hey everyone, I am definetley going to buy Half Life 2, but I don't know which one. Based on the fact that I have not even played the original Half Life, I want to buy the Half Life Platinum Edition 2, so I can just play all the expansion packs as well. Then, Half Life 2 Collector's Edition cought my eye, and it supposedly has a recoded version of the original Half Life in it. My question is, does this version of Half Life, which supposedly has the upgraded graphics of Blue Shift, include all the expansion packs? If not, would I be better off buying the Half Life Platinum Edition 2 with all the expansion packs and play the whole thing, or miss out on some of the story for better graphics in Half Life 2 Collector's Edition. Thanks!

I'd get the Half-Life 2 collector's edition and the Blue shift standalone.

Since Blue-Shift comes with a free copy of Opposing Force, you get:

Half-Life: Source
Opposing Force
Blue Shift
Half-Life 2
Counter-Strike: Source
+ some bonus stuff.

That's every Half-Life game that exists except Decay, which you can get if you buy the PS2 version of Half-Life.

You would probably be better off buying the Silver edition off Steam. This gives you Valve's entire back catalog of games plus Half Life2, CS: Source, HL: Source, and DoD: Source when it's available...

 What he said.
Blue Shift doesn't come in the Silver package, but it has everything else. It's what I got, and I'm enjoying actually owning my own copies of all the Half-Life mods.

Thanks for that, but if I buy the Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition, will the re-coded version of Half-Life still work with the normal copy of Blue Shift, and isn't steam that download service? If yes, is it really reliable?
