Hey all I code in other games but hl2 is hard I dunno y but I cant seem to find the files like in other games, where do I find existing weapons copy theyr stuff to new directorys etc. Andbtw anyone got links to hl2 coding guides? Hard to come by for some reason.

for cloneing weapons go to hl2 world.net wiki. theres a tutorial there. the weapons files are in the game_shared folder. took me a while to find them to. theres some good tutorials on the official half life 2 wiki which u can get to via the steam>sourcesdk menu.

so modding is kinda like the unreal engineunless im pro i basically extend my weapon or watever frm a previous one? nd edit abit

well i said that because you asked specifically about cloning a weapon. yes it is fairly similar to unreal although i didnt work with the unreal engine aside from mapping. and no you dont need to be a pro :D by general coding tut do you meen to learn the basics of c++ ? buy a book on c++ or search google for basic c++ coding lessons or tutorials. if you meen specifically for half life 2 then you need to read alot of code to understand whats happening. im a beginner myself its deffinetly not something that you can learn very quickly.

I know abit off C++ but I dunno where to start modding i look in all the steam directories and find nothing like a folder "system", inventory, weapons or anything whefe do i start

You need a compiler to start with.

Press "Create a mod" in the SDK, and it'll copy all of the files you need to edit to the folder of your choice. Edit them, compile them, and you're on your way.

oh right i thought you had visual studio. you need that to edit code for hl2. it costs about 100 gbp

I have Dev C++ compiler btw. But wouldnt doing that make a whole new conversion and not just adding a weapon to SP or new vehicle. Thats more of what Im into doing

There's no Scripting in HL2 (apart from a few weapon damages). If you're going to do something - anything - it has to be a compiled DLL.

If Scripting is what you want, download Garry's Mod and look into the LUA stuff he's provided for it.
