So this didn't happen to me but to a friend of mine, but when the new update finished up on his computer, his HL2, Counterstrike, and HL1 stopped working. He's vaguely irked. Anyone else having any trouble with it? Or any suggestions? He's going through CS withdrawal, and it's not pretty.

If you are talking about the update in the last 24 hours, then I have had no problems yet. However, I should point out that I was having no problems before the update either. I am mystified at the regularity of steam and HL updates. Is all of this really necessary?

Ach, hell if I know. Like I said, no problems on my end, but his is pretty screwed. it's very depressing.

Source Engine Update Available

An update to the Source Engine has been released. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Source Engine

* Fixed "steamclient.dll not found" error when running a listen server with LAN mode disabled

Can't see how that would screw up his Source games?

I got the update fine. But I still can't play and/or update the SDK... hMpH.

since the new update, I cant play any source based games.
yay! thanks Valve. :|

Yeah, that's what's going on with his. I screwed up and said it's Hl1 that is one of the games that is screwing up, when it's HL2:DM. so it appears that it's all of the Source based games. Just sucks a bit. We were going to team up on some CS goodness.

The update that contained all of the new fancy lighting effects really slows down my computer now and i get about 14fps now. THANX VALVE!

There are no new fancy lighting effects. If you're talking about the fancy bump-mapped tiles in dust, they've always been like that. Go to Options>Video>Advanced and set Shader Detail to low. Now there won't be any "new fancy lighting effects".
