Don't care anymore, I'll get the game once my EB store calls me, I've been hurt too many times ;)

November seems a long way away if they are planning to start send RCs on the 15th of September. I mean, that would implying that it would take over a month and a half from the game being finished to being released.

RC testing for Half-Life took 2 days. I can't imagine that it would take much longer for Half-Life 2.

Before asking Vivendi for confirmation, we went to marketing rep Doug Lombardi at Valve. "We're currently planning to send release candidates to Vivendi by September 15th," he told us. The timing's right. "However," he adds before we can get our hopes up, "VUG hasn't given us a ship date yet. Might be best for you to ask them directly. Let me know what you hear."
And all that talk of Half-Life 2 gold already, silly people getting their hopes up.

NOW THEY'RE CRUSHED AND DESTROYED MUWAHAHA! hehe.

Gamespot also stated that the rumor about half life 2 shipping on September 1st was not bogus. I would not put stock in this report.

This sounds right to me and at least with this next couple months wait we will know that the game is done and that its just being mass produced so there cant be anymore set backs after this one hopefully...& I dont mind waiting a couple more months.....but man this game better be good! :smoking:

Publicity Stunt? All Doug said was that they were going to start sending RCs to Vivendi on the 15th (Plently of time to finish all the CS:S beta bugs). Gamespot is the one saying "The timings right" which doesn't make sense to me.

Doom 3 took less than 2 weeks from going from Gold to released. Gamespot are suggesting that it's going to take a month from the first Release candiate being given to Vivendi to the game going gold. That seems like a very long time considering that RCs are submitted when the developer considers the game to be totally bug free.

OK this is the post to end all stupid retarded "OMG!!! X website/ Y magazine reported that HL2 will come out in Z month!!!"

Ladies and gentlemen, NO ONE FREAKIN' KNOWS.

Any idiot stupid enough to go out on a limb and tell everyone with any kind of certainty that HL2 will be out on x date deserves to be locked up with a large horny gorrila named Bubs. The only people with any kind of clue as to the progress of the game are the employees at Valve, and they aren't spilling their guts about ANYTHING. Don't expect to hear a release date until the game goes gold. And don't expect to hear a gold announcement until all the pre-loads are done and the CS:S beta is over. And for God's sakes don't belive anyone's estimation as to when the game will go gold, because....well read everything I just wrote.

So, bottom line: Any dates you hear other than an official word from Valve (www.half-life2.com is the best place to verify a gold announcement) IS NOT REAL. Feel free to tell the person who gave you the date to shove it and whatever other idiot info they got into a very unholy and dirty place.

this damn game will never come out. I think I'm giving up:( I'm going to go cry and then wack it and then go to a s.t.a.l.k.e.r forum cause that's lookin damn good. Plus they're going to have an amd 64 bit version of the game. Later ya'll

They may be viewing it from a marketing prospective.

Did you read the article?

That's what I ment, Doom 3 took only 2 weeks and I never heard people complaning about not finding Doom 3.

On a lighter note.

Are Gamespot taking the piss?

That date is probably the date they've set in a "if there are no more CS:S bugs being reported by that time then we'll send off the RC". It makes sense to have a deadline for the test. And the fact that CS:S seems rather bug free makes this date possible.

It's also possible that will be the day that the CS:S beta ends.

actually less if you want to get details, more like 1 week 5 days to get them to a few retailers.

If it hasen't been aproved by Vivendi, why are they pre-loading ?

It's interesting to see how timelines and schedules are virtually never met. Gabe said the game was supposed to be bug free a long time ago, yet they're still a fair way off from actually giving RC's to Vivendi.

Obviously the September 15th date won't be met either and the game will be in limbo for some time after that as Valve continue to try and perfect and refine the game. Perfectionism gone horribly wrong!!

November/December are looking likely from my pov now.

Because they are things don't need to be approved by Vivendi. Sound and textures won't be tested by Vivendi. RC testing is probably just to test it will run on certain types of Hardware. They won't find bugs like model clipping and suchlike, but they will find bugs which mean the game crashes on certain hardware.

This is mostly conjecture, I don't know a huge lot about it. But they can't do THAT much with two days of testing.

a release candidate is gold when Vivendi approves, why wait for over 1,5 months to release a game that is finished around september 15th !?!?
Because Vivendi must think that a holiday release will yield them more profits...so it's to hell with anyone whose been waiting, it's how can we fill (overflow) our pockets. PURE GREED.

We can't blame VALVe for this...if this is the case and we see this game released in NOV, I will not buy it. I have had it wilth all this crap. I am at the end of enthusiasm. I will be buying some other game come October. The only way I'll buy HL2 is in 2008 off the discount rack. Good bye people, good luck waiting. I'm outta here.

It's not that obvious, really. Why wouldn't they meet it? The logic that "Valve always miss dates so they'll miss this one" is very flawed.

The game is obviously not bug free, because some Source related bugs were found in the CS:S beta. What Gabe said was they were looking to be bug free according to their internal testing. The date for the RC is taking into account that they need to test any updates they make to the CS:S beta. They can't just fix the last reported bug then imediately send off an RC. The update could contain new bugs.

Valve always said that they were waiting till after the CS:S before they submit an RC. It's in the Valve Info thread.

Another thing, Perfectionism? Making the game playable isn't perfectionism.

Come September 15th i guarantee there will be no sending of RC's to Vivendi. The fact is when Valve set a specific date they never meet it. It'll probably be a few weeks after that date.

What they mean by September 15th is "We're sort of aiming around that date...sorta..maybe..dunno..sorta..can't guarantee anything!!" That's just how these things work. You can't precisely predict when something will be ready, though Valve try to predict it!!

Another thing, Perfectionism? Making the game playable isn't perfectionism.
I'm sure the game is release worthy now. Valve are just analising on the little pointless things at the moment.

As for CS:S, i personally think it's a ****ING DISGRACE that game is holding back the release of Half-Life 2
# Improved consistency of hitboxes between the server and client
# Fixed glows showing through map geometry -source related
# Fixed grenades getting stuck in props -source related
# Fixed rendering errors with DX8 and anti-aliasing -source related
# Fixed playerlist in-game UI: will now properly display players -CS:S related
# Fixed skywalking exploit on De_Dust -CS:S related
# Fixed alt-tab video corruption bugs -Source related
# Fixed player hovering over ground on round restart -CS:S related
# Fixed reload animation bugs on AWP and Scout -CS:S related
# Updated scoreboard to display 32+ player games properly -CS:S related
# Updated weapon sounds -CS:S related
# Updated weapon model textures -CS:S related
# Updated player hand texture -CS:S related
# Reduced effectiveness of flashbangs behind the player -CS:S related
# Added Friends list to in-game UI -CS:S related
# Added sv_password for servers -CS:S related
The above source related fixes, IMO are so minor, crappy, pointless, and just crappy it's a joke! This is the sort of shit they're fixing to delay the game a couple of extra months. I would personally not give a shit about such errors.

some of you people are insane. it's one goddamn game.

in case you haven't been paying attention, this september is one of the best game-buying months ever. just play something else. for example: burnout 3 comes out this week. it's excellent. buy it.

 That Duke Nukem:Forever being related scares me about Half Life 2. But hey, i'm cool with November.

And, what's wrong with being late? They don't have to answer to you or apologize. They can take as long as they want. Email Valve with your post and see what they say. Besides, you're only mad about it because you're so obsessed with the game, go ahead and ask someone who isn't following the game religiously, they won't care that it's been delayed. Get over it, find something else to do for the maybe 2 months you may have to wait until it comes out. The delay from last year to now is NOT a big deal and I think the majority of the people on this board overreact enormously to these things. Yes, I'm excited about HL2, but I'm not going to HATE the company that makes it because they want to make it better.

Sit around this forum for 14 months being fed BS and you too can be nutbar!

Either way hopes for a September release are completely and utterly dead now. Why Valve constantly insist on telling people their plans which never come to fruition i'll never understand. "Summer release date" ?

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. I assume this comment means you are going to pirate it when it comes out.

Hmm, we'll miss you :( :(. Oh wait, this is a public forum, I've never met you, you got less than a 100 posts, who cares if you leave. Valve can finish HL2 when they want, it's their game their capital, and if you are so blind or innocent to belive that HL2 isn't a buisness (and a big on at that), you need to get a little whif of the real world soon.

Yes, I'm excited about HL2, but I'm not going to HATE the company that makes it because they want to make it better.
Oh I despise Valve with a burning passion. My hatred of the company is so fiery and uncontrollable i'm about to explode in an avalanche of fury. The treatment of their audience over the delay period has been an absolute disgrace to all that is good in the world. I wake up every morning chanting prayers of malice and rage related to Valve. I wish someone would just C4 their headquarters back to the stoneages so i never have to worry about their bullshit again and just carry on with my life. Valve has tarnished my innocence and love for computer games in a way no-one can possibly imagine, the lies and deceit over these months just astounds me. This is more than computer games now this is serious shit, this is a matter of life and death, and the more bullshit excuses Valve pull out of their anal passageways the larger my army of fanatic Valve haters will grow. We will form an unstoppable group hell-bent on tarnishing anything Valve slap their names on. The anal pounding of customers must stop!!

haha i'm joking...

Somewhere a Valve employee is shedding tears while working his ass of to finish HL2. I hope you're all happy!!!

Why do you think that Vivendi would make more money with a holiday release? The game's demand will not have decreased much by that time even if they released it tomorrow (especially consiering how early people start shopping for Christmas presents). I wouldn't worry about Vivendi holding back the release because of profit, that just isn't smart business.

Listen, I dont think anyone is obsessed with the game to the point where they are going nuts about it. I just think that all the information regarding the game has made people really anxious to start playing it. But when you given all this information how a game will have this capability and contain a revolutionary new gfx engine...however we don't know when it will be out, its kind of dissappointing. I will buy the game whether it comes out tomorrow or late november, however that is not to say Im not bummed that its not out by now after all the delays that it has had thus far. To be perfectly honest, Im pretty sick of it. Seacrest out.

They said it would be out during the summer. It is really lame if they cant get it out by Sept. 30 at the latest.

To be honest, I'm kind of loosing interest, and I'm a really patient person, I've never bitched about dates, But now is starting to get a little old, maybe to ver-hyped., I won't enjoy it as much as I would have done before.

No one can honestly claim losing interest when still lurking in this threads. Maybe your interest isn't as excitable as it was, but certainly it's still there.

Sorry, that's a little off-topic.

Also, I'm not flaming you in anyway Adrien C.

Yep, maybe that, I mean when I saw the videos, I was like, WHOA !! stuff never seen before, the vid with the guy closing the door just strook me. After those vids, I got my new rig 2 weeks later, hoping, like everyone else, that I would play Hl2 Sep 30.

if Vivendi or VALVe hold it back to November just to catch holiday seasons, i will download and pirate as many copies of it as i can

:cheese:
