i was just playing trough hl2 again and this time round i really got bothered that the steering wheel and the handlebar is moving freely about, we can all see hands on the guns, why cant we here?

Because Gordon drives with his mind.

Because then you would ask why we can't see Gordon's feet on the pedals. And we all know Gordon rides a magic carpet with a tape-recording of footsteps at his side.

Gordon doesn't speak because you're supposed to be thinking the things he's saying. That doesn't apply to driving, particularly as we can see his hands on guns.

Thus, he controls it with his mind.

Then somebody will probably ask why you can't see hands when you pick up a object using "e". That is impossible to code.

You see his hands on the guns because seeing the guns hovering in mid air would ruin the imersion more than otherwise. For the hands/no hands in the car, its arguble.

Because it would have been a lot of work to implement a body awareness system that Valve would have been happy with? That's what I think, although I believe Valve have said it was a design decision.

it would look extremely awkward to have the hands and feet on the car.....

i have to agree with your ideas :D i didnt get bothered b4 and i dont pay attention to it anymore, at that moment it just hit me :P

Clearly you don't remember that game was horrible.

Gordon doesn't speak because it is you that thinks what he thinks.

GORDON DOESN'T DRIVE BECUASE YOU THINK THAT HE DRIVES LOL :D

*sigh* another perfectly logical question ruined by the idiot commitee... ok your rite about the wierdness of his no hands driving and that was botherin me the other day to...

I heard somewhere that Valve tried this, but the arms kept getting wrapped up, and they couldn't come up with a version they liked.

This question has been asked TOO MANY times.

IF Valve made it that way, it's probably BETTER that way.

Clearly you don't remember that game was horrible.

Doesn't matter, it implemented something that most games of today claim they did first.

And it really wasn't that bad, sure it was buggy as **** but it had its moments.

Because coding and animating the driving would be incredibly difficult, expecially when you'd have to programme it to stear, push the pedals, use the turbo, and aim the gun while looking in any direction. It would be near impossible to get it to look good.
