Ok heres my problem, when I try to play HL2, I dont get any sound. When I open it up and the valve logo shows up(the guys with the thing on his eye), I can here the music, but after that I get no sound.

I thought to check my other games for probs so I checked CS:S and HL2: DM. In CS:S, all the sounds work fine while Im playing, but when I do the speaker test in the options menu this is what it looks like: PIC HERE (It says "Node Graph out of Date. Rebuilding..." if you cant read it.)

After the little "Node..." message disappears from my screen it runs and everything is right.

Then I checked HL2: DM and I get the same problem as HL2, and when I try to run the speaker test on this game, I just click it and nothing happens.

BTW I have Half Life 2 Sierra Retail (CD) and I just updated my sound card today.

PLEASE HELP!

volume is set to 1

files were validated

snd_restart did nothing

i tried snd_resetaudiocache (i think it was that, something like that)
that gave me an error and closed hl2

also when i open the options menu it says this in the console

couldn't exec userconfig.cfg
Wrote cfg/config.cfg

that have anything to do with it?

just go to audio options and set 2 speakers mode. that should fix the soundproblem.

nope already checked there

looks like ill have to email steam...

i reinstalled steam today too

GOT IT!

somehow -nosound got into my launch options

remember that incase someone else has the problem ;)
