Question: I've set up a map using a series of unconnected brushes as steps in a stairwell. (Think like a metal stairway on a factory floor.)

Despite the generous use of info nodes, My NPC's can't figure out that this is a stairway. They don't recognize it at all.

Any thoughts? E-mail me direct or post.

Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is that the steps are too far apart height-wise. But that seems too obvious.

If Source is anything like the good ole lithtech engine, you should be able to create an invisible albeit solid brush over the stairs (i.e. a ramp) for the NPCs to walk on.

Place an info_node on every other step - have a look at metastasis_1.vmf for examples.

(Yes, source VMFs are included in MINERVA... ;-) )

they are!!~!!......*runs to the minerva folder and spends the next 5 hours looking at the map.*

your steps must be too high or you didn't add info_nodes halfway up. i have no problem with npc grunts running up my stairs, which have an 8-unit riser. i put info_nodes at top, middle and bottom. this is plenty

16 units is the max height for stairs afaik.
