NPCs: node hints and scripted sequence issue!

I want to do some work with crows on a level I'm working on and so have been attempting to learn how to use info_node_hint/info_node (experimenting with ground npcs and the air version of the nodes for the crows) and have had no luck what-so-ever.
In addition, I've tried scripted sequences for Barney and when I have him go to another sequence point with "move to position" set at walk or run, he basically teleports to that location (although it's more like an extremely quick glide - he disappears but you can see a few flickers of him at he moves over to the specified point.)
Another thing to note is that there are example maps from the numerous tutorials I've looked at and I download and run them and the actions that are supposed to take place don't even happen.

So I guess my question is, does anyone have any advice as to what I should check for issues?

And, possibly a really stupid question, or rather me being stupid for not knowing what may be obvious, but does scripted sequences even work for HL2MP?

Well yes that thread has quite a bit of neat information but unfortunately it deals more with ai_relationships and console commands. Looking through it I couldn't find anything about info_nodes or scripted sequences...

I'm deeply confused how example .vmf maps that have everything set up even manage to not work for me. :/
