I got a new desk and because of the size and where my tower is the "right" speaker has to be on the left side. Obviously this messes up the sound and knowing where stuff is coming from in game.

Is there a setting in windows 7 that would reverse the speakers?

Are the speakers hard wired to the main unit? You can't switch which ports they're plugged in to?

That's certainly the easiest fix. For the sake of argument, he could be using a single stereo cable where the sides are hard wired to the plug.

I'm not familiar with that sound card to know if it's an option in the drivers though. If you're dealing with the single cable issue, you could manually do it with a soldering gun, or even black tape.

I'm not talking about where the speakers plug into the PC.

Usually the subwoofer is the main unit of a 2.1 system, and the satellite speakers plug into that first before the whole thing goes into the PC. These satellite speakers are usually RCA cables. But, they could be hard wired, as in you can't unplug them to switch them. You could if you knew how to solder...

i have 2 speakers, 1 which connects to the tower and subwoofer and the other is connected to the first speaker. the wires aren't long enough for me to simply rearrange the speakers so i was hoping there was a setting somewhere to reverse the ouput (so the sound that should be coming from the left speaker comes from the right)

like i said, it's a silly situation but nonetheless still annoying.

Ah, so it's one of those systems where one of the satellite speakers is the main unit. You're pretty much ****ed there, as far as a simple physical fix.

I did some googling yesterday about a software solution, but couldn't find anything.

I've got one solution that'll cost you 7 dollars including shipping.

Order these bad boys, and just hook them up reversed. (speaker cable goes into female 3.5mm jack, male stereo rca goes into female stereo rca in reverse, male 3.5mm jack goes into your pc)

Welcome :)

Some audio control panels for sound cards have an option to invert the channels but I don't think plain windows does.

Could buy an extension cable.

There is software that also has an option to invert left and right channels but I've only seen it for media play back like in Winamp or something rather than all Windows sounds.

I'm not sure if this would help but if your PC is on the floor then maybe it would be closer if it was up on the desk. Less dust too. ;)
