Alright i wanted to order the HL2 gold package off of steam and i was using my friends internet connection (he has broadband i dont) but he got rid of the internet when i was almost done. I REALLY want the gold package because of all the extra goodies, but i have dail-up and cant dl it. SOOOO i was curious that if my freind buys it retail and i still order the gold package that if i installed his copy and used my steam account if that would work? That way i got all the stuff i wanted and still got HL2 to work. Is this possible or is there something im missing that i need to know. lend me your ideas...

From what we've heard so far this is definetly possible. You'll need to burn the copy to a disk so you can install it on your computer (but that's obvious), and you'd probably be best authenticating on your 56k modem. Other than that, I see no problem with it.

I dont know. It may even matter how it installs its self on to your computer (encripted or not). Does your friend have Broadband?

I think it will be fine. I believe you install it encripted and steam decriptes it when you type the cd key in to steam. If this is right then you will be fine because you will get a new cd key when you buy Gold that you will use for your copy of HL.

You are practically paying for two copies of HL2 so why the hell should it not work if you are giving them more moolah?

no he is not he is not. His problem is that he cant download HL2 from steam because he has 56k but he wants the Gold package. Right?. so instead of downloading it he is useing his friends retail copy to put the encriped copy of the game on to his computer. then buy Gold from steam to unlock it. this is all theory based but i think this is very likely this will be fine to do.

... If you bought your Gold copy on Steam, you only need to login to your account to retrive it..

For Gods sake Robert read his question before shooting your mouth (or keyboard rather) off.

Well, your friend has broadband. You should get broadband, and get out of last century.

Go get a REAL internet connection. Why bother TRYING to live your life with dial up. Instead of all this scheming and dillusional thinking, why not sign up to cable??

well see i DID have cable at one time but i lost my job (unfortunatly) and havent had good luck finding one so yeah if i get a job cable is first on my list after bills. I agree 56K is stone aged but hey its better than nothing aye?

I lived my life without boradband for many years. In fact I lived the majority of my life without any internet connection at all.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!

...me too

I have a 56k, i dl 600 meg files(infact I am right now). Now, if you only have a little left i see that as no excuse!
High speed isn't everywhere folks. Not everywhere in the USA, Canada, Mexico. Sorry to say so, but its true.

Now, you simply copy his cache files on a disk, put them on your computer, then there you go.
Simple.

anomalousstuff - you have a spelling error in your sig, which completely ruins the joke. None --> Noone / No-one.

Just a temporary attack of pedancy.
